How can I get illegal dumping, like mattresses, cleaned up in my neighborhood?
Illegal dumping of bulky items, like mattresses and furniture, continues to be a problem in many areas of Daly City. Since these items usually do not contain identifying information, it is difficult to catch people who illegally leave them on sidewalks and roads. The best way to report illegal dumping is to use the City's helpful reporting app, iHelp, on your smartphone. Download the app for iPhone and Android on our website:

The iHelp app allows residents to easily snap a photo and automatically send service requests to the appropriate City staff. In addition to illegal dumping, residents can report other issues like potholes, streetlight outages, graffiti, litter, construction issues, and much more.

It is important to report illegal dumping as soon as possible because illegal dumping often attracts even more illegal dumping.

If you see someone dumping items illegally, try to get their license plate, snap a photo, and then call the Daly City Police Department at (650) 991-8119.

Sandbags Available For Storm Preparations
Sandbags are available to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the parking lot adjacent to the Water and Wastewater Resources Department at 153 Lake Merced Blvd. Residents are limited to 10 sandbags each free of charge, while supplies last. When filling sandbags, fill them only half way, so they are not too heavy to lift and will stack properly.

Interested in getting prepared for disaster? Visit for more information on sandbag availability county-wide and how to gather other emergency supplies, like water, fire extinguishers, flashlights, manual can openers (the electric ones won’t be any good when you don’t have power!), and more.
