Anne Wien Newsletter - April 23, 2018

What a fantastic PTA Spring Carnival we had last Friday night! Many thanks to our PTA and to Carnival Chairperson Mary Reece for organizing such a wonderful night for our whole community! Thanks to our staff and to all of our volunteers for running our booths, as well. What an amazing community we have here at Anne Wien!
As you know, we are in the middle of our annual budget cycle here in the district and across the state. In Juneau to this point, the Senate and House have now passed House Bill 287 which would provide flat funding for education for 2019. There is an addition made by the Senate now being considered that would forward fund education for 2020. You can make your voice heard and encourage our state legislators to support this increase by submitting your name on this letter. It takes about one minute to submit your name using this electronic link. Now, it is up to the Governor to sign off on HB 287 and we will be waiting to find out what our borough will contribute towards education. The next Borough Assembly meeting which you can attend and testify will be on Thursday, May 3. All of these answers will impact our planning and class sizes next school year. Thank you for supporting your child's education and all of our students!

Hip Hop Dance Class and Performance this Week!
We are excited to welcome Artist in Residence Kendell Macomber to Anne Wien this week! Ms. Macomber is going to be teaching Hip Hop Dance to all 400 of our River Otters during their specials this week. Then, this Friday, at 1:40pm in the gym, we'll wrap up the week with a fun dance performance by our students. What fun!
$1,047.20 in Donations!
Student Council's "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society ended last Friday and your generosity was simply AWEsome! We set a school goal of $500 and blew that away by raising a total of $1,047.20. Wow! All of that money will go towards research to help fight cancer. Thank you SO much, Anne Wien families! Here were our top 3 fundraising classes:
     1st: Ms. Tallberg's Kindergarten, $203.82
     2nd: Mrs. Anderson's 1st Grade, $133.28
