Anne Wien Newsletter - April 16, 2018

We hope you all had a wonderful sunny weekend! This week marks the beginning of our PEAKS statewide testing window for all 3rd-6th grade students. Here is the testing schedule for each class:
Champagne (3rd), Hayes (3rd):
            Mon. April 16: Reading/Writing Test
            Tue. April 17: Math Test
Carosso (4th), Wallace (4th):
Wed. April 18: Math Test (Wallace only)
Thu. April 19: Reading/Writing Test (Carosso & Wallace)
Fri. April 20: Math Test (Carosso only)
Tue. April 24: Science Test (Carosso & Wallace)
DeNoble (5th), Wiegand (5th)
            Wed. April 18: Reading/Writing Test
            Thu. April 19: Math Test

Cerven (6th), Swift (6th):
            Mon. April 16: Reading/Writing Test
            Tue. April 17: Math Test

As parents, here is how you can help your children do their best on these tests:

1.   Attendance is critical. If we do not have 98% of students here at school to take the tests, our school automatically “fails” no matter how well the rest of our students do, so please make sure your child is here on time at 8:30 AM.

2.   Thanks for continuing to make sure your child is well rested and well fed everyday, especially during these days of testing. Alert brains and happy tummies always help students do their best!
3.   Encourage your children to slow down and take their time on these tests. These tests aren’t timed, so students literally have the entire day to complete them.

Good luck and May the Force be with our River Otters this week!

We'll celebrate the end of our statewide PEAKS testing week with our PTA Spring Carnival this Friday, April 20, from 5:30-7:30pm! Please make sure your children (and any friends joining them) are here with an adult for this family-friendly carnival. We’ll have numerous booths, activities, food, and prizes for you all to enjoy! We hope to see you all here!

Calling all Cakes!

During the Spring Carnival, our 3rd Grade runs the Cake Walk. To make sure we have lots of winners, we ask that Anne Wien families and staff members to send in a cake, cupcakes, or pie. If you would be willing to donate one of these items, please send them in the day of the Spring Carnival, which is this Friday, April 20. Thank you!

This is National Volunteer Appreciation Week and we’d like to take a moment to thank all of you for the tremendous support you have provided our students and staff this school year. Anne Wien Elementary continues to be a successful school thanks to all of the members of our community working together. Whether it has been joining your child on a field trip, helping with a booth at the Spring Carnival, making copies for your child’s teacher, or joining us at a PTA meeting, your every action has made a positive difference for our school… your school. Thank you. It continues to be an honor for all of us to work in such a supportive place that is so dedicated to serving children!
