Anne Wien Newsletter - February 26, 2018

So. Much. Shoveling! I hope you have all been surviving the incredible snowfall that we’ve been experiencing here in the Interior. I hope your weary muscles can soon get a break from your driveways! Speaking of breaks, with the end of February now here, that means there are only two weeks remaining here in 3rd Quarter before Spring Break. Thank you for all the support you are giving your children at home and for the reminders you are providing to help them get their work completed and turned in before the end of the quarter. PTA's Muffins with Moms is coming again this Friday so we hope to see you all here at Anne Wien again this week!

Anne Wien Parents Featured at Concert!
In celebration of Black History Month, the Fairbanks Arts Festival held a Gospel Choir Concert this past weekend featuring 3-time Grammy nominee Ryan Shaw and 2 Anne Wien mothers, Jaunelle Celaire and Willa Watts, as featured soloists! We are lucky to have talented students AND parents here at Anne Wien!
Spelling Bee Results!
Please congratulate our Spelling Bee winners! 6th Grader Flora Henry placed 1st. The 2nd place finisher was 4th grader Rianna Widener. Dylan Scherzer, a third grader, placed 3rd. Our top three spellers will go on to represent Anne Wien Elementary School in the District Spelling Bee next Saturday morning at West Valley's PAC. Congratulations and good luck!

Calling all Moms, Grandmothers, Aunts, and Mother Figures!
This Friday, March 2, marks the first Friday of a new month, so that means it’s “Muffins With Moms” time again! We’ll be in the gym this Friday from 7:45-8:15am. Thank you for parking on the side of the building closest to the gym (rather than the front sidewalk). We’re looking forward to seeing you all again!
Science Fair Next Week!
After all of the hard work your student has been doing at home since last month's "Become a Mad Scientist Night," our Science Fair is almost here! Science Fair Projects will be judged next Wednesday, March 7. Judges from throughout the community will be coming to speak individually with each student who entered the school Science Fair. A very special thank you goes to Ms. Harlamert for organizing another fantastic Science Fair for all of us here at Anne Wien.
15th Place:
Our Current Attendance Ranking
As of this week, our Anne Wien students have been at school for 91.79% of this school year. Of the 22 elementary schools in our district, we have dropped to 15th place. To reach our goal of a daily attendance rate of 95% we need to have no more than 20 students absent from our school each day. We can do this! Thank you for getting your children to school on time each and every day, Anne Wien families!
