With Wednesday being Valentine’s Day, let me take a moment to say just how much we love the gift of having your children attend Anne Wien Elementary School. We have seen great growth and learning from your students and we thank you all for your ongoing efforts at home to make this a successful school year. It is clear just how much you love your children! Thank you. I’m sure your children will show you just how much they love you in return on Valentine’s Day! Have a wonderful week. We hope to see your children here on Friday night for PTA's "Kids' Extravaganza" and we’re looking forward to seeing all of you here for Parent/Teacher Conferences next week!

PTA "Kids' Extravaganza" coming this Friday night!

Remember, “Kids’ Extravaganza” Night is coming up this Friday, February 16, from 6:00-8:00 PM! You’re welcome to drop your children off here at Anne Wien for 2 hours of fun, featuring a “Just Dance” Room, gym activities, a board game room, and Valentine’s Day crafts. We'll also have prizes with pizza and a drink for dinner! (Bring a water bottle just in case.) Cost is $15 a student and just $5 for each additional sibling. (Only K-6 Anne Wien River Otters may attend this event.) We hope you get to enjoy a quiet dinner while your kids are here!

Parent/Teacher Conferences next week

There will be no school next Monday and Tuesday, February 19 and 20, so we can hold parent/teacher conferences with you. Please contact the school right away if you need to change your scheduled time. Some classes are doing “student-led” conferences. We look forward to seeing you all!

As of February 12, 2018 at 9:00pm Alaska time, Anne Wien Elementary has raised $550.00 for the American Heart Association! Awesome job, River Otters! This year our school goal is set at $3500.00. If Anne Wien Elementary students achieve our $3500.00 goal, the top 5 fund raisers will get to shave my head (Mr.Brenner) at an all school assembly!!

The money goes to research, education and helping families with children that have heart defects or heart disease. Donations are also tax deductible. Raising money is optional and everyone will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart event during PE. An extra parent letter and collections envelope are available in the front office if needed. Candy Grams for Sale

Our Student Council will be selling Candy Grams each day at student lunchtimes until next Tuesday, February 13. They are 50¢ each and can be delivered to anyone in the school. Candy Gram deliveries will be made on Valentine's Day.

February is Black History Month

Our FNSBSD School Board recognizes February as “Black History Month” and we here at Anne Wien are excited to honor our country’s history of African American leaders, especially throughout this month. Teachers will be leading special activities and lessons in their classrooms throughout the month.

Our Current Attendance Ranking

As of this week, our Anne Wien students have been at school for 91.87% of this school year. Of the 22 elementary schools in our district, this puts us in 13th place. The competitor in me wants to see Anne Wien at the very top of this list! Taking out common absences due to this year's flu, I believe 95% is a realistic daily goal for our 400 students. That means having no more than 20 students absent from our school each day. We can do this! Thank you for getting your children to school on time each and every day, Anne Wien families!

Book Fair has started!

Thanks to our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Bravo, our annual Book Fair has started and will run through February 23rd. Students are welcome to bring money and visit during their lunch times and be sure to come visit yourself during Parent/Teacher Conferences next week!

Spelling Bee coming February 23

This year's Spelling Bee will be on Friday, February 23, at 1:00 PM in the school gym. There is still time to practice, practice, practice!

Order your Yearbook!

It’s time to order your yearbook! Pre-orders for yearbooks are now open. Those pre-ordering a yearbook will be guaranteed a full-color yearbook for $15. Order forms can be returned with exact cash or checks payable to Anne Wien PTA. You can also order your yearbook online. Go to: ybpay.lifetouch.com and enter Yearbook ID Code: 12814718. There will be a very limited number of extra yearbooks available when orders come in, typically less than 25, so we encourage you to pre-order now.
