Here is the letter that Dr. McKersie sent to all families:
The following message was sent to all WPS colleagues. I wanted to update you on the progression of the budget process also.
January 31, 2017
I want to be sure you know ASAP that the BOE approved the recommended 2017-18 Operating and Capital Budgets last evening by votes of 6-0 (with one BOE member absent). The BOE gave the proposed budgets careful scrutiny and all their questions were answered with expertise and promptness by a variety of administrators. I want to thank all involved for a collaborative inquiry and decision making process, which at each step gave first priority to the educational needs of our students. At the risk of delving into political philosophy, this budget process was an example of how deliberation and decision making in a democracy should work. (Students of American political history will know the special place school boards hold in our decentralized governance apparatus.)
Now, on to the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Finance and ultimately the town-wide budget review meeting. Yes, we still have much work to dol. I will keep you posted as we proceed toward the final decisions on the budgets—due in late April.
In closing, a special thank you to the administrators—Central Office and in the Schools—who worked tirelessly to develop the budget and work with the BOE. Well done!
(Attached is the final Executive Summary for the Budget adopted by the BOE.)

Here is the letter that Lisa Deorio sent to all families:
This is a follow up to my letter of January 17th. Attached are some resources for you that I hope you find helpful. Talking to your kids about alcohol, Assertive parents, and A memo from your child are three handouts provided by Safe Homes, an organization that supports creating a safe and healthy environment for all youth. I encourage you to read them.
I appreciate the feedback that I have received from many families regarding this serious issue. I am also grateful for the support of Superintendent Dr. McKersie and the Weston Board of Education who are committed to providing a healthy learning environment at our schools. Our K-12 health teachers and school counselors have already taken the lead through their delivery of appropriate grade level curriculum and instruction. I am very proud of their work as they address issues with our students. Thank you for your continued support. It is important to keep the lines of communication open as we partner in this effort.

Please support the WHS CLASS OF 2018 (current Juniors) by purchasing a Weston spirit Bleacher Seat for $15 (navy blue with yellow W).
The Jr. Class Fundraiser
This navy blue folding seat cushion is made to make sitting on the bleachers more comfortable (it is great for when the bleachers are cold or wet) and its soft material acts as a good cushion to put over a stiff chair. In addition, the back has the yellow Weston logo printed on it and also acts as a pocket.
The profits from this fundraiser go to the Student Government Class of 2018 in the High School and will be used to fund its annual student government spirit events including holiday decorations, spirit weeks, events such as Prom and so much more!
