From the PTO President, Megan Couch
On behalf of the WHS PTO, I would like to take this opportunity to say hi and welcome back to school! The WHS PTO is a fantastic organization that I encourage all of you to be a part of. It not only helps you as parents stay well informed and connected but it’s filled with incredibly interesting, smart and thoughtful individuals that you may not meet otherwise.
The PTO is strong at the high school with support from all levels. It’s an important piece of the spirit of the school as our organization provides our students with enhancements to their everyday lives that enrich the curriculum as well as strengthen the community as a whole. We organize the best fundraisers in Weston, starting with the PSAT/SAT prep course, the Election Day Bake Sale, and finally the Memorial Day 5K Road Race. It’s very exciting here at the high school, so please take advantage of the volunteer opportunities open to you.
As many of you know, it is important at the high school level to stay connected; with your PTO membership, you’ll receive a directory so that you have access to all the high school contacts you and your student will need for the upcoming school year. You will also be signed up to receive the online newsletter called The WORD. The WORD is filled with timely announcements about school activities and events.
Please remember this is a PARENT ONLY registration and ONLY ONE PARENT needs to register all your students in the 4 schools. Payment is expected at time of registration.
Another great way the PTO helps you stay connected and well informed is to provide monthly meetings. Our PTO will meet in a General Forum once a month. Our first meeting is Friday, September 9th, at 9:45 a.m. in the Main Office Conference Room (coffee at 9:30). All are invited to attend. If you have not had the chance to meet our WHS Principal, Lisa Deorio, or WPS Superintendent, Dr. Bill McKersie, please be sure to come listen to them speak to us about the upcoming year.
A special thank you to a few of our hard working PTO members that took care of business over the summer. Thank you, Tiffany Donovan Green, Roberta ReCouper, Gail Newell, and Rook McGuire and your volunteers, for treating our own WHS staff with a delicious back to school luncheon. It was a special day for the PTO to let staff know how much we appreciate all that they do for our kids. And thank you to our PSAT/SAT Prep Course Chair, Sheila Crowe, for organizing the courses that will be available to students in October. Please see below in this newsletter for registration information.
Please join our Facebook page! Weston High School PTO (Connecticut)
I look forward to seeing you all next Friday, September 9th, at the General Meeting! If you need to contact me, please do not hesitate to email me at email@example.com.

PTO MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY SPONSORSHIP:
We are delighted to offer sponsorship opportunities again in this year's PTO Family Directory. This year's sponsor names will be flashed in a banner on the PTO website! Membership directories travel with parents, so your ad will be with them all the time!
Sponsorship pages will be printed on heavy stock paper in the middle of the directory and we will print only business-card size (approx. 2.125" x 3.5"). Your card will appear in gray-scale on colored paper. It will not be printed in color.
The price for the cards will remain at $100 each. Unlike other venues which are typically disposed of after an event, the Directory pages are viewed over and over throughout the entire year.
If you would like to participate this year, please complete our online form. The deadline for directory sponsorship is September 15, 2016.
SPACE IS LIMITED! Reserve today.
Your confirmation email will provide instructions for sending in your artwork.

ADAP News -Seeking Chair for Evergreen Dance for Freshmen and Sophomores
Chair needed for Evergreen Dance. We are hoping to continue this great tradition! The Evergreen Dance is just one of many events provided throughout the year that promote an alcohol and drug free environment for our children. It is traditionally held the first weekend in December.
Please contact Eilene Brostoff (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you can help out with this event.
MOCK TRIAL - Meeting for those interested in Mock Trial on 9/6 at 7:20pm, room C7
- Seeking Coaches and Consultants
For all students interested in participating in Mock Trial, there will be a meeting at 7:20 on September 6 in C7. Auditions will be help September 12 from 2:45-6 pm, and September 13 from 7-9 pm. Previous experience is not required. Students may try out as either witness or lawyer. Audition requirements will be reviewed at the meeting on September 6. Anyone unable to attend the meeting, but interested in joining, should send an email to email@example.com.
Weston High School’s State Champion Mock Trial team is gearing up for an exciting year. The team will once again have three squads supported by our dedicated parent coaches. We are looking for community members, preferably with experience in litigation, to help coach the team. Current coaches serve in several capacities. Some are hands on coaches who attend all meetings, 2-4 hours per week, and are consistently involved in the preparation for competition with the students on their team. Other community members serve as consultants, either coaching specific skills related to the case, or serving as judges for scrimmages and providing feedback.
If anyone is interested in becoming involved with the team, please email faculty advisor Laura Del Savio at firstname.lastname@example.org.
PSAT will be administered to all Sophomores and Juniors At WHS on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 at 7:45am.

PHILANTHROPY - Request for Microwave and Small Fridge
Dear PTO families! I have the privilege this year of being our Philanthropy Chair for WHS PTO. A job I love! First, I welcome any new and innovative ideas you may have, and second, I have a request already. I am looking for two microwaves and one small fridge (even a dorm size one!). We have a number of needs for both in our school and before spending any hard-earned cash on them, I wanted to see if anyone out there has either to donate. I will even come pickup! Thank you and please let me know.
Since we began this program in 2013, we've earned over $25,000! Up to 8.5% of all purchases made using this link goes directly to the PTOs. PleaseClick Here to make all of your Amazon purchases or link through our webpage at www.westonpspto.org
