Making Change Happen Professional Development Program

ACFID and the Institute for Human Security and Social Change are currently delivering Making Change Happen - a professional development program for leaders and senior managers from development NGOs.

The program focuses on the challenges that NGOs will need to address if they are to remain relevant and effective in 10-15 years’ time. NGOs operate in complex and dynamic environments where disruptive changes are the norm. Yet conventional approaches to development and ways of working are not always well-aligned with the need to innovate, reflect and adapt.

The program is made possible with the generous support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Unit 1 on Foundational Issues in Making Change Happen was delivered from September to November last year, followed by Unit 2 on Program Management in a Complex World which is currently being delivered. Unit 3 on Organisational Development in a Complex World will be delivered in April and May.

Bringing ‘Thinking and Working Politically’ and gender together at the Australasian Aid Conference

Last week our directors Chris Roche and Dr Linda Kelly, research fellows Dr Andrea Babon and Tait Brimacombe and Programs and Partnership Manager Yeshe Smith attended the 2017 Australasian Aid Conference in Canberra.

Dr Linda Kelly presented on Partnering for effective change: the case of the Australia Africa Community Engagement Scheme.

Institute staff were also involved in two panels on ‘Bringing ‘Thinking and Working Politically’ and Gender Together. These panels included presentations from research fellow Tait Brimacombe, Honorary Research Associate Romitesh Kant, and masters student Rebecca McLaren, alongside others. The panels looked at how gender analysis and political economy approaches can be better integrated to not only contribute to gender equality outcomes, but to improving inclusive development more broadly.

Chris Roche’s 3MAP – three minute aid pitch – is available to view on youtube.

Our Research Fellows Dr John Cox and Tait Brimacombe both have chapters in Transformations of Gender in Melanesia published by ANU.

John Cox has written the chapter on Kindy and grassroots gender transformations in Solomon Islands and Tait Brimacombe wrote the chapter on Pacific policy pathways: Young women online and offline.

The entire book is available online.
