At Nelson Public Libraries we have been adjusting our programmes and services in line with the COVID-19 Protection Framework and are aware that these could change over the next few months.
Nightingale Library Memorial will temporarily close until Wednesday 2 March due to staff shortages caused by the COVID-19 situation. The Stoke and Elma Turner Library will remain open under the following hours:
Elma Turner Library
Friday, Monday, Tuesday: 9.30am – 5pm
Saturday: 10am – 4pm
Sunday: 1-4pm
Stoke Library
Friday, Monday, Tuesday: 9.30am – 5.30pm
Saturday: 10am - 1pm
Sunday: Closed
Items can still be returned to all three branches using the 24/7 book drops, and there will not be changes to the Click and Collect service at the Elma Turner and Stoke Libraries.
Please note that while we plan to re-open all three branches next Wednesday, this may change due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 situation. Given this unpredictability, we recommend checking our website, Facebook page, or Nelson City Council for the most up to date information.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding. We can be reached at library@ncc.govt.nz or on (03) 546 8100 if you have any further questions.
A modern library can have a lot going on with programmes, computers, noise, and bright lights. We are working towards making our library more welcoming for people with hypersensitive conditions such as anxiety, Autism, intellectual disabilities, dementia, or other neurodiverse conditions by making it a less stimulating environment.
Every Tuesday morning, Elma Turner Library will hold a Quiet Hour with computers off, sounds minimised, and artificial lights dimmed.
Now, people with different needs have a time designed for them to visit the library to discover, learn, and create from everything the library has to offer.
If you're a dino geek like us and you're counting the days until the June release of Jurassic World: Dominion, here's some things to read (or knit) while you wait. Fossils, fossil hunters, genetics, climate change, and high stakes adventure - something for every amateur paleontologist and Sam Neill fanboy or girl.
