Beverly Davenport Named UT Knoxville Chancellor

I’m pleased to announce that I have selected Beverly J. Davenport to lead the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I will recommend her appointment to the Board of Trustees in a special meeting Dec. 15 in Nashville.

Dr. Davenport is a proven higher education leader with a tremendous record of accomplishments across a wide array of initiatives that show her ability to achieve great things. She is currently interim president of the University of Cincinnati. Previously, she was senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at Cincinnati for three years.

During a comprehensive national search, Dr. Davenport rose to the top of the candidate pool because of her extensive experience and qualifications. She will be an excellent fit as the next leader of UT Knoxville. I’m confident the flagship campus will continue its ascent as a top public research institution under her leadership.

Pending board approval, Dr. Davenport will join UT Knoxville on March 1, 2017.

I am also grateful for Chancellor Jimmy Cheek’s leadership. He has served us well as chancellor since 2009, and I appreciate the energy and vision he has brought to the University and our Knoxville campus. It is important that we continue the momentum Chancellor Cheek began.

More information about the search is available online, and I look forward to updating you after the Board meets in December to consider Dr. Davenport’s candidacy.

All the best,

Joe
