Happy Monday, Wilkinson! Today is Day 3. Here's your weekly rundown of what's happening at the school.

PLEASE NOTE: Fitness club will be held outside this week. Please check the weather before coming to school. If it is raining, fitness club will be canceled.

Earth Day at Wilkinson
Classes will be participating in a city-wide School Clean-Up by picking up litter from the yard just after lunch. Older classes will be cleaning up the local neighbourhood. After the clean-up, there will be a brief assembly to look at how much litter and recycling the school collected.

For more information, including details on the 'Slices for Devices' program from Pizza Pizza, please visit the EcoSchools page on the new Wilkinson website

Wilkinson's 100th Celebration
Last fall, Wilkinson turned 100 years old! In recognition of this milestone, we are hosting a 100th-anniversary celebration on Saturday, May 14th at 1:00 pm at the school.

Take a walk down memory lane, connect with old friends and classmates and have a look at the photos, jerseys and memorabilia that tell Wilkinson’s story.

For more information, and to receive updates, check out the ‘Wilkinson 100’ Facebook page.

Blue Spruce Voting
10 amazing picture books. 13 classes. 250 students. 1 vote.

Starting last week, primary students began voting for their favourite Blue Spruce book (here is a list of this year’s titles). This shortlist of 10 incredible picture books are all Canadian and all current.

Since January, all of the nominated Blue Spruce titles have been read to primary students. Using iPads, the Kindergarten classes kicked off the voting process.

By the middle of April, we will know which title is Wilkinson’s favourite. Thousands of students across Ontario will cast their votes with the provincial winner announced on May 17th.

Wilkinson students have had fairly good predictions in the past. What about this year? Stay tuned! Happy reading!

Wilkinson Wood Car Derby
The 2nd Annual Wilkinson Wood Car Derby was a big success. The derby raised money to help the WSCC fund programs and initiatives for the school and, most importantly, students and their parents had a lot of fun while doing it.

Many thanks to the race participants, sponsors, volunteers and event organizers. Hats off to those who showed off their amazing creativity and engineering prowess. We can't wait to see what you come up with next year!

Refugee Sponsorship Group Bake Sale - SWEET SUCCESS!
The Wilkinson-St. David’s Refugee Sponsorship Group wants to recognize all of the students, parents, staff, and volunteers who helped make our bake sale a success. Thank you, everyone, for your very generous and delicious donations!  We were able to raise over $1200 to go towards sponsoring a refugee family, bringing our running total to about $12,000. Thank you for continuing to support this cause.

We also want to let you know that while we wait to be matched with our own privately sponsored refugee family, our group has in the meantime been assigned a government-sponsored family through the Welcome Project. While we are not providing any financial support to this family, we are providing settlement support. This family of six has just moved to Thorncliffe Park area and says they are happy to finally have a home, and they look forward to building their new lives here. Read more on our website.
