Good Morning, Wilkinson! Today is Day 5. Here is your weekly rundown of what's happening at the school:

Vision Health Information
The beginning of a new school year is an optimal time to raise awareness about the importance of vision health. Did you know that 1 in 4 school-age children may have a vision problem that could affect their ability to learn? Some signs your child may be having difficulty seeing include:

  • Squinting or holding objects close up
  • Turns or tilts the head when viewing objects or covers one eye
  • Excessive blinking, rubbing or itching eyes
  • Complains of blurry or double vision

An eye exam is the best way to help detect a vision problem, and it is covered by OHIP every year for children and youth age 19 and under. For more information, visit Toronto Public Health website or call 416-338-7600 to speak with a Public Health Nurse, or find an optometrist near you: www.optom.on.ca.

Orange Shirt Day
Wilkinson will observe Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 28th. All students and staff are encouraged to wear orange on this day. Orange Shirt Day acknowledges the history and legacy of the residential school system in Canada by honouring survivors and remembering those who did not. It is a day to demonstrate, by wearing orange, that all students matter.

Ukulele Program
Classes for all students in the Ukulele program will start the first week of October. Students who purchased ukes for the class will receive them, along with folders and instructions for Week 1 practicing, at their first class. Email confirmations have been distributed. If you signed up for the program and did not receive a confirmation, please contact info@uschool.ca. A few spots remain in the beginner Uke program. If interested, please contact the Uschool directly.
