Klindt Park Expansion
Park Expansion Work Approaches

Expansion of Klindt Cove Kiwanis Park should start in a month or two thanks to the help of several community partners.

The Dalles residents told us that as we are developing the Port of The Dalles Industrial Area, they want us to preserve and improve river access. The Port dedicated the adjacent lot zoned commercial/recreational and Project Coordinator Kathy Norton secured a $70,000 Oregon Parks grant to get the project started.

Gorge Works Draws Good Sized Applicant Pool

Thirty-nine applicants are hoping to be chosen for one of 13 paid summer internships or apprenticeships offered through the Gorge Works Paid Work Experience Program.

Almost all of the applicants are from the Columbia Gorge area, or have family ties here.

"Part of the idea behind Gorge Works was to connect local job candidates with local employers offering the potential for careers in skilled positions with good wages and benefits."

Blue Zones The Dalles has joined the neighborhood at the Port of The Dalles Industrial Area. Its activities are based on healthy lifestyle practices of communities around the world where individuals live to 100 at 10 times the national average in the U.S.

PUD Invites Grant Applicants

Northern Wasco County PUD is accepting applications for economic development grants until April 18, 2018, at 5 p.m.

The PUD’s Board of Directors has allocated $50,000 this year to help fund economic development projects within its district.

State Takes on Building Code Services

Effective Feb. 1, the State of Oregon Building Codes Division is providing services on behalf of Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam and Wheeler counties.

The change comes as a result of the dissolution of Mid-Columbia Council of Governments, which had previously provided these services.

The Building Codes Services office has moved to a new location in the Wasco County Public Works and Planning building at 2705 E. Second St. in The Dalles. The office's main phone number is 541-506-2650 and its fax number is 541-506-2651.
