Splish, Splash, Splosh with the Belonging Project!
August has been a busy month, helping the Belonging Project with their Summer of Fun. Whether that was bread making, sword building, and clay modelling with Bushcraft, or mosaic creating and silk painting with Arts and Crafts, the fun never stopped!

It has been great to see so many people stepping out of their comfort zone to making new friends and taking part in activities they had never done before. It is even more amazing to see the parents taking part and enjoying quality family time within the project.

Newport Youth Futures - Learning and Exploring Together!
The Newport Youth Futures team has embraced the Summer Holidays with a host of a variety of activities and trips taking place this month. This truly is a Summer of Fun with many memorable moments including many young people travelling on a train for the first time. Our collaboration with the BME CYP team in Newport meant that we could reach out to more vulnerable young people and families making it a memorable Summer for many.
Our young people visited the Senedd and learnt about Welsh Devolution, politics, how to secure their rights and even become part of the Welsh Youth Parliament. A fun cultural boat trip and an opportunity to take part in the funfair attractions also in Cardiff Bay. NYF also arranged bowling, laser zap zone and the Friday Footy Mania this month with over 50 young people in Newport engaged in the activities we’re providing.

Insights from an EYST Newbie!
As the summer draws to a close and children go back to school we wanted to share some of the experiences, thoughts and feelings of our wonderful youth workers about their experiences during the last month at EYST.

From the start of August, I’ve been engaging with young people through football sessions lead by Basit. The young people preferred for me to join in and play, which I found helped me to build better relationships with them. Now, when most of the attendees see me on the street, they’ll say hello and chat with me even if it's just for 5 minutes. Also, I organised Laserzone for the first Wednesday of the month which was both fun and a great way to get some exercise. Everyone enjoyed it and because of the response, we decided to make it a weekly activity. With the help of my colleague Rumee we've been able to help young boys and girls experiences the fun of laser tag, some for the first time. Within my role, I’ve been able to attend surfing lessons in Caswell beach with Paul, helping to ensure that there was a good staff to young person ratio and spend some great time out of the office with the young people! While at the beach I still had to work, ensuring participants crossed roads safely, helping to carry surfboards, and regular headcounts were only a few of the things that had to be done.

Inbetween activity days, I would help out with one on one meetings, contact clients and keeping in regular contact through messages and phone calls to ensure everyone got the best help possible and all issues were fixed. With the help of Lee, we have a trip to Oakwood planned towards the end of the month, and with the help of Rumee, we’ve filled all the spots. Actually, we had to increase the number of young people for the trip as we had 0so much interest in it! Lastly, Rumee, Basit and I cleaned and cleared out as much of the Drop-In as we could to get it ready for the reopening in September. Needless to say, it's been a hectic August but I've enjoyed every minute of it!

Thank you all for a memorable summer!

Kind regards,
Muhit Rahman

BME CYP - Wonderful End to a Wet Summer!
So this month we’ve been caving, White-water rafting, on a residential trip and swimming too! Thanks to a great partnership with Freedom Leisure and Active Wrexham, we have been connecting families and individuals in need with free swim sessions and lessons. Huge thanks to a Youth Service Strategy Revenue Project which has granted young people in Wrexham a small grant towards trip costs for summer activity, and also to the North East Community Cohesion Team who have approved another small grant towards Gym access for young people and Individuals.
Some upcoming dates to mention ...

On Wednesday 25th August, children, young people and families will be taking part in a group visit to Powys Castle & Gardens thanks to the National Trust and their Wellbeing Access Pass.
On the 31st of August, we also have a group trip to Xplore! Science Discovery Centre in Wrexham too! AND on Friday 20th August 8 young people embark on a 5 night ‘Getaway Training’ residential to the Anne Matthews Trust in scenic Corris, Powys. Here the group will explore the amazing local natural beauty and attractions and learn about community leadership and development to empower each to tackle local issues for them in their own communities! – More images to come from this amazing residential in next month’s newsletter!

Big shout out to Rolando who is a BME CYP client who has secured a 12-week Internship at the Trust, where he is learning to plan, deliver and evaluate residentials at the venue. The Trust have kindly supported Rolando by allocating funding for educational costs for Rolando's future educational aspirations to become a Paralegal. We must shout out Javier from the Trust who has been an influential mentor throughout!!!!

So many thanks to partners for positive outcomes with individuals and families this month! Let’s keep this going!
