New High School Open House
Jeff Bertrang estimated over 1,000 people from the community were able to walk through the new building.  Upon entering, the first thing you noticed was the bright open commons area with piano music playing in the background. The building was designed to encourage collaboration and multiple functions. Wider hallways, work stations and soft furniture encourage group projects and models more of a collegiate atmosphere.  "The large open spaces were designed to create an environment in which the students choose to function, rather than an environment where they are forced to stay." (quoted from The Journal)

Outdoor Learning Environment Update
The grant awarded at this year's Eagles Extravaganza is starting to come together. This project will continue to take shape over this school year. Last month, some of our board members were able to watch the kids in action. It was great to see the kids Interacting with each other and having fun while exploring STEM concepts such as force, gravity, and momentum. There is a music and dress up station, highway with tricycles, magnetic boards with chutes and balls, and a very popular sand box. A component of the learning environment was added when they discovered run off from the playground. This was developed into a stream and the kids were immediately engaged: "the kitchen needs water" or  " a magic potion"! There are plans to utilize the NUHS shop class to build a tunnel for the highway as well as a teepee this spring. This is just the start of the project, we will send an update this spring as it further developments.

"This is what I am trying to do...I'm making a track...It's balanced!"
