IMPORTANT COVID CHANGES AT PAPERCOURT
Signing in to the club
We are now legally obliged to display the NHS QR code so that members can log their presence on the site using the NHS Test and Trace App on their smartphones. If you cannot log in using this method, we have a signing in sheet available in the lobby (separate from the race sign in sheets) and we would ask you to sign in each time you visit.
Masks – Please now wear a face mask any time you are inside the clubhouse, including the lobby – the only exception being the OOD when in the galley behind the screens.
Covid at Papercourt - Some members may be aware that youth training was cancelled last week as two members involved in training had tested positive for Covid in the previous week. We took a super cautious attitude, and can now reassure everyone that all those affected were speedily contacted and have now completed their self-isolation period.
For the time being the changing rooms, clubroom and bar remain closed, and we continue to ask members to sit outside, use the sanitising stations, follow the rule of 6, and arrive changed and ready to sail, then change at home afterwards. Please do not attend the club if you feel unwell.
As we move into October we come to the season of Sunday Open Meetings, so we are keeping Saturdays for our sprint races. Cruising from 12.30pm with sprint racing from 1pm.
Upcoming Open Meetings.
Due to Covid restrictions all of our open meetings this year have to be pre-booked. Booking is very easy on our website Open Meetings page, which you can access here :
As we are not providing lunches this year (bring your own lunch but afternoon tea and hot drinks included) we have reduced our entry prices, but I'm sure there will be great sailing for all.
For those who would like to cruise, this is still available, but restricted to South of the silver birch, (on the right bank).
If anyone has a Firefly they would be willing to lend/hire for this open, please contact josefvs@gmail.com
Enterprise Open - 18th October - this will be combined with Sunday Morning Club racing - 3 GH races starting at 11am. This is the last set of races for the Summer Cup. NO NOVICE RACES that day.
November sees some further variations again with:-
Work Party - 1st November - see below - No Sailing
The Lawes Trophy and Champion of Champions - 8th November.
A one day series. The Lawes trophy is open to all members who have not won a trophy so far, excluding a Novice Cup whilst the Champion of Champions is for everyone else. We will probably run two races in the morning and two in the afternoon
Absolutely everyone is welcome to join in - separate starts for Champs and Lawes
From the 15th onwards we return to GH races am, sailing for the Autumn Trophy and Novice races around 1pm after the GH series.
Weedcutting
Our weedcutters have been out clearing the weed once again so it is currently pretty clear.
Frank Brown, Sailing Secretary
Work Party - Sunday 1st November
1st November is the Work Party so no sailing at all. This is one of two days every year when all members come together to help with the numerous jobs around the club that need to be done. Everyone welcome from 09.30. Free lunch for all who help, but this year we will need to pre-book lunches - watch this space for a booking page on the website soon.
Update on the Old Guide Hut
Many of you will know that the old Guide Hut about half way up the lake on the left hand side was an early version of the clubhouse many years ago, and then for a long period leased to a local Guide pack and then used for storage by the club.
We are now pleased to report that a local company who occupy several different premises in Ripley, are planning to relocate their business to Papercourt, subject to gaining a satisfactory planning consent. We are delighted to have been able to agree terms, thus enabling them to stay in Ripley. This is good news for us as it means that the building will be maintained and also provide a valuable income stream to the club looking to the future.
Cruising on Saturday Afternoon and all Day Sunday at Weekends
4th October - Laser Open
11th October - Firefly Open
18th October - Enterprise open combined with club racing - no novice races
25th October - Solo Open
1st November - Work Party
8th November - Lawes Trophy and Champion of Champions
