Signal from the Sailing Secretary
Bank Holiday Monday
As usual we will be open on the Bank Holiday, with cruising as from 10.30 through to 3pm. We (I) will also run sprint racing in the morning from 11am, so come and join in.
The great news is that, there is pretty much no weed now. Our teams have done a great job clearing, so much so, that it is quite hard to find (unless you have parked on the bank!!!) and it is now showing all the signs of dying back. The lake level is also starting to rise again following some of the recent wet days.
A quick reminder to book your duties for the dates you want, between now and the new year, as next week we start auto allocating again, and once allocated it is up to you to find a substitute if you cannot attend.

If you are a new member and not sure what duties are suitable, drop a line to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be happy to help.
Congratulations to all those who turned out for Social Sailing last Wednesday
evening, particularly in view of the forecast. In the event, over a dozen boats
took to the water from at least half a dozen classes - and the weather far from
what had been forecast, started with a light breeze, just enough to get us all to
the far end of the lake, and then as so often, faded away to next to nothing for
the 'return journey'. Suffice it to say however that 'everyone was counted out
and all were counted back in'!
Big thanks also to James Dunham who despite numerous capsizes
over the weekend (or perhaps because of them!) heroically gave up his anticipated evening sail to man the Safety Boat.
Just a reminder, that Wednesday the 9th of September is the last
planned Wednesday evening Social Sail of the year - where has the time gone!
To mark the occasion we shall explore, in these Covid controlled times, whether
a 'glass of something' can be provided afterwards for those who turn up to sail! David Birch - cruising captain
Ladies Sailing - Monday 7th September 5.30 onwards
Ladies Sailing last week was once again very popular with lots of Ladies having fun and improving their skills. Last one of the year is on 7th September so come along and join in. Club boats are available free but on a first come first served basis.
Once we have finished Ladies Sailing for this year, come along and cruise or race at weekends, ladies - we would love to see you.
Today was the first of the reinstated Novice Races, and it was great to see five participants. The race takes place after the Sunday morning GH races - around 1.00pm and is usually a simple course round three of four marks. Come and join in and put your skills to the test. All ages and all classes welcome.
New Members Introduction - 10.30am Saturday 19th September
On Saturday 19th September, we will be having coffee and pastries, in the marquee and all our new members since we did this last year are invited to come along and meet some of the team who make your club run. They will be there to introduce themselves, give a bit of a rundown on what they do, and answer all your questions. We are aware that it has been a while since the last new members' event, but Covid got in the way. So do come along if you have any questions about sailing, racing, training, duties, boats etc etc. A formal invitation will be on its way to you shortly by email from the Commodore, but put the date in your diaries.
