K-CEP Newsblast:

K-CEP annual meeting in Mexico catalyzes real reductions in cooling emissions and engages partners in cooling collaboration
Over 100 cooling experts from government, civil society and business met in Mexico City last week for the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program’s 3rd annual strategy meeting. Participants discussed what more can be done to speed and scale policy, finance and technology solutions that can bring efficient, climate-friendly cooling to all, and in the process support the SDGs.

Refrigerator manufacturer Mabe, the leading home appliance brand in Latin America, announced 25% efficiency improvement of its products and the phasing out of HFCs. MGM Innova, a private equity firm, shared plans for an ambitious refrigerator replacement program in partnership with Mexico City. Topics under discussion among K-CEP partners included better data collection about product sales, harmonization of standards, enhancing regulatory compliance, and overcoming barriers to investment. Participants strengthened collaboration and generated lots of ideas for future work in K-CEP’s Phase 2. The 4th annual strategy meeting is planned for same time in 2021 (venue TBC).
Grantees, funders and experts convened at the K-CEP annual meeting for working sessions on common issues, best practice sharing, and joint strategizing.
