K-CEP, in partnership with the Cool Coalition and The Climate Group, hosted an event for governments, businesses, financial institutions, academia and civil society to announce new commitments on efficient, climate-friendly cooling in order to help implement the UN Secretary General’s Climate Summit call to action. With over 100 actors and over 150 actions, this represents the biggest surge of coordinated action in history to bring on efficient, climate-friendly cooling to all. Details on the actors and actions are included in the event’s brochure.

Speakers at the event included ministers from Lebanon, Bangladesh and Denmark, Commissioner from California, the head of UN Environment, Sustainable Energy for All and the Green Climate Fund, Chief Sustainability Officer of the Mahindra Group, the Economist Intelligence Unit, and a number of climate change philanthropies. Actions announced included commitments to publish national cooling plans, establish mandatory energy performance policies and consumer-targeted labeling schemes, scale up investment in climate-friendly cooling technologies and solutions, pilot technologies to bring new solutions to market, implement district cooling, scale up nature-based cooling solutions and solar-reflective roofs, publish knowledge products and provide technical assistance to businesses and governments. In addition, through the newly launched “Cooling Challenge” from EP100, a number of big businesses pledge to adopt ambitious targets for the  implementation of energy efficient, climate-friendly cooling throughout their businesses, with transparent action plans for achieving targets.
