The Preschoolers at Duncan Lake Early Childhood Center have been exploring and growing their knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math since receiving a STEM grant through CEF last Spring. The Preschoolers have used blueprints to build, made observations and measured with water beads in the sensory table, and designed different structures using a variety of different building blocks.
Early Childhood Special Education teacher Jodi Barthel commented, “The materials spark the children’s interest in learning and applying early math and science concepts. They are eager to experiment and try different configurations without being concerned about doing it “wrong.” There is no right or wrong way, it’s all about their imaginations and endless possibilities.”
By donating to our email-a-thon, you will be helping to fund hands on opportunities like these in the classrooms. Donate to CEF today.
Students at Kraft Meadows Middle School use their 6 new iPads to demonstrate their abilities to read and write. Applications like, SnapType and Co-Writer allow them to generate output for their written work. They carry their iPads to their general education classes so they can access learning and share with their teacher and classmates what they know. All it takes is a quick picture of the worksheet in the SnapType app and they are able to type away!
Students can also plug in their headphones and launch Co-writer to verbally share what they know. They are thrilled to show everyone the knowledge they are able to demonstrate. It’s true everyone can read and write! Just not all of us use paper and pencil!
Did you know? Over 160 grants totaling over $315,000 have filled in gaps when little or no other sources of funding were available.
We'll be sending a few emails this month highlighting ways that CEF supports students and teachers! Help us continue to fund these programs.
Interested in other ways to give? Buy an engraved brick or give a teacher a year-end gift!! Visit our website for more information.
Please support our EMAIL-A-THON!!!
The goal for this email campaign is $5,000 by the end of March!
We are asking 100 families to give $25.00 which would add $2500 to our grant program.
Why give to CEF? "The amazing teachers in Caledonia have so many inspiring and innovative ideas, but there just never seems to be enough money for their ideas to come to fruition. CEF has stepped in and made it possible for those ideas to become realities. I am happy to give to CEF so that the love and passion for teaching can stay alive through grant opportunities! Any amount will make a positive difference in giving our kids more enriching experiences. Thank you CEF board members for your servant hearts!" - Marcy Torres, Speech Pathologist and Caledonia Parent
