"Mock Trial has been the most beneficial class I have taken in all of High School. Learning valuable skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and team cooperation will follow me through the rest of my life because of this class, not to mention a solid education of the court system in the country."           -Johnna Pullen
“Before Trial Techniques, I was somewhat at a loss of what I wanted to do with my life once I got into college. I took Trial Tech because I thought it might be cool, but with the experiences I have received and the enjoyment I got out of being remotely close to law, I've been convinced to become a lawyer myself, and that is a reward I'd never thought I would get from a simple elective"
                                     -Eli Luneke

In the fall of 2018, CEF granted Caledonia High School’s Mock Trial teams a $500 grant for competition. In November, the students received their case materials, Kelly Simon v. Terry Swift and Spartan Academy, from the Michigan Center for Civic Education. The students work in teams as attorneys and witnesses to prepare their case for trial. The teams argue their case against other schools in the United States District Court in Grand Rapids with practicing judges and attorneys presiding, ruling, and scoring their case. Caledonia’s Mock Trial program has grown significantly over the past three years and is at the maximum amount of students allowed to compete. The grant covered registration fees and transportation costs, which in turn, allowed all students an affordable opportunity to compete. Throughout the Mock Trial process, students gain confidence in public speaking, critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork. It is an outstanding opportunity for our high school students and the CEF grant helped make this opportunity more affordable and accessible for our students!

"Mock trial allows me to showcase and practice the leadership I know I have inside. Everything from writing your first words to your last, working with your team and creating the perfect case is something truly gratifying."
