The North End Lake in Port Elizabeth was in desperate need for rehabilitation due to extreme levels of water pollution. The lake is very popular for activities such as power boating, canoeing and angling. The high bacterial levels made the water unsafe for any recreational activities.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in Port Elizabeth assigned Kayalihle Trading as the main contractor for the rehabilitation of the lake.
Recently we were invited to assist the CSIR on their facilities, located in Paardefontein, Pretoria North, with the repair of gabion structures used as protection for bomb shelters. The goal was to find out whether the gabions that were damaged during explosions or ballistic testing could be repaired by only focusing on the affected section.
