We would like to wish him all the best for all his future endeavours and thank him for all his hard work for many years in the centre.

Good Luck Mike … is what Mike had to say about his experiences of working for Harlech & Ardudwy Leisure and prior to this, Gwynedd Council.
A Message from Mike
In September when I decided to take redundancy the three month notice period that I had to work seemed as if it would be a long time but now the time has almost gone.  My last day at work at Harlech Swimming Pool is Friday December 19th.
I have worked 25 continuous years at Harlech Swimming Pool since 1989.  However I first worked at Harlech Swimming Pool way back in 1981 when it was my first ever summer job.  I returned to work at the pool every summer since then when I was in the sixth form at Ysgol Ardudwy and when I was a student.  I also worked at the pool during the year between my degree and my teacher training course.
In the early days I was working for Meirionydd District Council.  I remember the bin men used to bring the cheques for the staff pay every Thursday when they collected the rubbish. One member of staff used to go to the bank to cash everybody's cheques and return with an envelope of cash for each worker.  After local government re-organisation the pool was run by Gwynedd Council until the take over by Harlech and Ardudwy Leisure in 2010.
There have been many changed to Harlech Swimming Pool over the years.  I think the only thing that has hardly changed is the actual pool tank! I remember when customers used to be given a metal basket to put their clothes in.  They then returned the basket to the metal counter and then we used to hang it up.  After their swim customers would come back to the counter to collect their basket.  However, many used to forget the number of their basket and would have to describe their clothes!
The cafeteria used to be a spectator area with a few vending machines. It was nothing like the nice café which we have got now. Also people used to have to go out of the building and walk around the corner to get into the café. I remember if we had any awkward customers asking to get to the café instead of telling them to go outside and turn right we used to tell them to go outside and turn left, left again, left again and then turn left! That would take them on a tour all the way around the outside of the building.
I would like to thank all the staff who I have worked with over the years. Can I thank the current pool staff (Bethan, Darren C, Darren P, George, Richard, Cynan and JJ), the current wall staff (Chris and Jeannie), the current café staff (Dionne, Stacey, Jodie, Isabell, Rebecca, Justin, Korina) and also the volunteer staff (Dylan, Joy, Chris Mellor, Teresa Ridley, Irene, Simon Dawson, Clive Higgs, Rhys Titley).
I would like to thank the directors for all their hard work, especially Heidi, Chris, Dylan and Joy. Can I also thank Anwen Barry, Arthur Coleman, Trevor Gennard and Richard Holland for their hard work when they were directors and for their work in keeping the pool open? Thanks to Jacqui for doing the staff wages every month.
Thanks very much for the Friends of Harlech Swimming Pool for their hard work over the last few years, especially Jim and Sheila Lees and Rosy Berry.
When looking back at all the staff that I’ve worked with during my time at the pool I am surprised that I’ve worked with so many people. I’ve also got to say that most have been a pleasure to work with. Previous staff include (apologies if I have left anybody out, there were a lot of people to remember!) –
Sam Whitley, Sarah Parlett, Jasper Davey, Ieuan Williamson, Dan Commannder, Mike Fox, Gethin Sharp, Iola Jones, Joe Andrews, Mike Pugh, Bethan Preston, Rob Newing, Ed Richards, Ashley Owen, Lisa Jones, Gwyn Parry Roberts, Mark and Andy Stone-Williams, Tom Pugh, Hanna Pugh, Ffion Pugh, Helen Lakin, Luke Rushton, Dylan Marshall, Carys Maxwell, Brian Harvey, Petra Turner, Darrell Jones, Caryl Jones, Alex Evans, Martin Perch, Gavin Leau Hughes, the three Williams sisters (Heidi, Lowri, Sioned), Alison Wise, John Wyn Richards, Dylan John, Dion Llwyd Hopcroft, Jasmine and Ciaron Bowyer, Alyn Lewis, Mike Evans, Chris Walker, Kayla Jones, Catrin Owen, Eleri Rogers, James Hicks, David O’Keefe, David Parkinson, Bryn Hughes, Tony Edwards, Jennifer Bradley, Trishia Evans, Arwel Davies, Gillian Painter, Mark Griffiths, Deio Griffiths, Phil Griffiths, Mike Jones, Aron Payne, Owain James, Bethan Smith, Lois Roberts, Paul (Queens) Jones, Natalie Cark, Shaun Rowlands, Carol O’Neal, Rhian Roberts, Paul Owen, Huw Michael, Gareth Williams, the late Ken Lloyd and the late Lewis Young.
Harlech Swimming Pool has been a major part of my life for many years. It is where I learnt to swim as a child. It is where I have taught a lot of people to swim and where I later taught their children to swim! Working at Harlech Swimming Pool has taught me valuable lessons over the years in how to deal with people in all sorts of situations.
Thank you Harlech Swimming pool and good luck in the future.

"I'm honoured and delighted to be the first winner - disappointed that more haven't signed up yet - do you realise that £4 out of every £5 pledged every month goes to keeping Harlech & Ardudwy Leisure open."  He encouraged people to spread the word and encourage others to pledge every month, even a small amount will help ensure the future of the Centre.
