Dear People of Hope,
Members will soon receive a letter from Council President Addie Anstine inviting them to an in-person, in-your-car Congregational Meeting on Sunday July 26, 5pm at Hope. All the information one needs is in the letter. But here are the basics:
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues in coming months, there may be decisions that require meeting and voting by the Congregational Council and by the congregation.
Hope’s current constitution does not allow for remote (electronic) meeting and remote voting.
Hope’s Congregational Council has called this one in-person meeting to allow for future remote meeting; we have consulted with the Metropolitan Washington DC Synod on how to do this safely and legally.
This meeting will include two votes to allow us to meet and vote remotely in the future. A quorum of 25 members is required for these votes.
For everyone’s safety, please follow these meeting practices:
Come in your car and stay in your car the entire time. Please park in the upper parking lot; volunteers will direct you. You will be given a ballot for each vote and a sheet with information you will need for the meeting.
Wear a mask, even in your car, when communicating with others or handing your ballots out the window.
Bring your own pen or pencil for voting.
Bring your cell phone; we will all speak and hear others via Zoom, either video or phone/voice. The link, dial-in number, and meeting ID will be provided on the information sheet you receive when you arrive.
This meeting will close with prayer and Holy Communion, served through professionally packaged, individual “fellowship cups.” You will receive the elements when you arrive at Hope; they will be blessed as you hold them in your hands at the end of the meeting.
You may direct questions to any member of council, including Pastor Julie. During the meeting, volunteers will be available to help and answer any questions that may arise.
We hope many of you can join us on July 26.
Peace of Christ, Pastor Julie

Everyone Invited to Virtual Choir Singing Amazing Grace record yourself by July 21
Alex is using technology to gather people's video and voices in singing one of our best known hymns, Amazing Grace. Want to join? He'll email you all the materials you need, you'll record yourself singing and send the video back to Alex. He'll stitch everyone together so we can hear ourselves singing together. All singing skills welcome. Contact Alex for more information: email@example.com
Franklins Fundraiser Update Thank you for your support!
The June fundraiser at Franklin's was once again a tremendous success. The PG Plaza Day Center will receive $396 from the fundraiser to benefit people who are homeless and in need in our community. We have raised a total of $2,894 through Franklin's fundraisers since June 2017. Thank you for your participation and support of CUCE.
Want to support the Day Center more? Watch for another Franklins fundraiser in December 2020. And contact Joan A about delivering lunches on July 21 or August 18.
Faith Sharing - Do You Have a Story to Share?
You may have noticed a time of Faith Sharing or Testimony within morning worship. It has been powerful to hear how God is present to people in daily life, recently or long ago. If you have a faith story to share with the community, contact Pastor Julie.
Thanks to Kat, Ana, JT and Lauren who have shared recently. Hear their testimonies in the worship services posted on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb3sPisSvuvo7IhDIFQklbg
