5-7pm - Humble Walk meal and worship for Students
Dear People of Hope,
You may know that the Easter season in the church is 50 days long, intentionally longer than the 40 days of Lent, a week of weeks.
Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton in Chicago shares an Easter message here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1p8iOOar4E.
She affirms that this Easter season many of us are gathering in person, but the first Easter started in a cemetery. Even as we continue to live amidst a pandemic and war, she affirms, with the biblical character Job, "I know that my redeemer lives."
We continue looking for the Risen Christ among us.
Peace, Pastor Julie
Music Show at Clarice Smith at UMD Saturday May 7, 8pm
Hope's former musician, Derek Maseloff continues to be involved with creative music and community in the region. He shares the below invitation for this Saturday, building upon a performance many Hope people attended several years ago:
On Saturday at 8PM Konshens and I (Derek) are returning to the area! He is performing as art of the UMD Wind Orchestra concert. Its an interesting collaboration- the first of its kind to mix a rapper + esoteric wind band literature. Its going to be lots of fun! This concert also features the world premiere of a work that I wrote for the band + Konshens called "Dreams". We actually did a version of it back at the concert you all attended, but this one is about 10 minutes longer and written for an ensemble of 35 players.
All tickets at the Clarice this year are pay what you wish.. so its a great opportunity to catch a concert on the cheap!
Finals Kits for College Students Collecting treats now through Sunday May 15
Hope is collecting donations for finals kits between now and May 15th. Best loved treats are: microwave popcorn, individually wrapped tea bags, chewing gum, snack bars (granola/protein/nut), drink packets and cheese or peanut butter crackers. Then stay after worship on Sunday May 15 to pack the kits to give to students.
Thanks to Bonnie M who has coordinated this program for years at Hope! We are seeking a new coordinator this year; reach out to Pastor Julie if you'd like to learn more.
Lauren Johnson memorial service Saturday June 4, 3pm
Plan to join family and church community on Saturday June 4, as we gather for worship and comment longtime Hope member, Lauren Johnson into God's care.
The service will be followed by a time of coffee, tea, snacks and fellowship. Contact Beth in Hope's office if you are available to help; or simply bring food to share.
Celebrate Alex and Bonnie's Marriage Sunday June 5, within and following morning worship
Our beloved musician Alex is getting married, to Bonnie, also a fabulous musician around Hope. Their wedding will be a small service in Seattle in May. But we'll celebrate with them and Alex's parents, visiting from Bulgaria, on Sunday June 5. Watch for details and plan to join this celebration.
Lutherans support DC PRIDE Saturday and Sunday, June 11-12
This region celebrates love and identity in its many forms every June. Reconciling in Christ churches (like Hope) are invited to be involved in DC PRIDE festivities. If you'd like to walk in the parade Saturday or support a booth Sunday, talk to JT R. Not available but want to support the efforts? Hope will be making signs before the event after worship; watch for a date and join us then.
