Dear People of Hope,
Christmas Day is a Sunday this year. And that means we get an extra long Advent season. See below invitations to all kinds of way to participate. There are several ways to shop and give financially. There are several community events - including buy-your-own dinner out and a music concert (Thursday 12/8), or Hope-provided-dinner and Taize prayer (Wednesday 12/14). And of course there is the Advent Petting Zoo- this year offered in partnership with our neighbors from Living Water Seventh Day Adventist Church (Saturday 12/10).
We hope to have a lot of fun, build community, and share some meaningful prayer as we await Christ's birth at Christmas.
Peace of Christ, Pastor Julie

Alex plays Rachmaninov for his 2nd dissertation recital Thursday, December 8, at 8pm
Hope's beloved musician, Alex, will perform for his second doctoral dissertation recital on December 8. This will include a song cycle with a singer, a piano trio and a piano concerto (performed with his wife, Bonnie). This event is free and no tickets are required; just come to The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Glidenhorn Hall. We join Alex in prayer for his continued success.
Want to have dinner before the concert? Join others at Le Fantome in Riverdale Park (near Whole Foods) at 6:30pm., https://lefantomefoodhall.com/
Gifts of Hope - local giving this Christmas starting now!
Jesus’ birth changed the world forever. This holiday season, we too can transform the lives of others through more meaningful giving. Donate through our Synod’s Gifts of Hope program and you will support local and global organizations with proven track records of helping those who need it most. Operating since Advent 1992, Gifts of Hope has raised and disbursed almost $4 million to two church camps, four ministries, three international companion synods, and many local social service agencies affiliated with the Synod. These funds have helped the homeless, the hungry, the young, the elderly, immigrants, refugees, jobseekers, seminary and college students, and those seeking to improve their lives. Visit the Gifts of Hope table in the entryway after the service to pick up a catalogue or go to GiftsOfHopeDC.org to learn more.
Buy Gift Cards that benefit Hope physical cards and online options
Hope continues to be enrolled in the Scrip gift card fund raising program, which is now called RaiseRight. The program allows you to purchase gift cards at face value with a percentage of that value going to Hope as a rebate. RaiseRight has an amazingly extensive list of participating retailers of all types, so this is a great opportunity to purchase gifts for everyone on your shopping list -- or groceries or other items you need yourself -- while benefiting the church.
We are putting together a bulk order for physical gift cards, with a deadline of Monday, December 12 in order to receive the cards before Christmas. If interested, please go to www.raiseright.com to survey the full range of options for gift cards. Then place your order with Paul Thompson at prthomps1@verizon.net or (301) 772-5831. Paul will distribute the cards when they arrive and collect payment from you at that time.
E-gift cards are also available through Scrip at any time. If you were not previously registered with Scrip/Raiseright, just request an enrollment code from Paul to enable Hope to receive the rebate.
Hope is Hiring starting now!
Hope's wonderful Administrative Assistant, Beth, has to resign from the position due to family needs. We are grateful for Beth's 5+ years of faithful service and we pray for her transition. Hope is now seeking a new Administrative Assistant. Find the job description on Hope's website and share it with any people or networks who might be interested.
Finals Kits for College Students Collecting treats now through Sunday December 11
Hope is collecting donations for finals kits between now and December 11th. These treats will support UMD students through what is always a stressful time on campus. Best loved treats are: microwave popcorn, individually wrapped tea bags, chewing gum, snack bars (granola/protein/nut), drink packets and cheese or peanut butter crackers. Then stay after worship on Sunday December 11 to pack the kits to give to students.
Thanks Mary C who is coordinating this program!
