Pastor Julie welcomes people to in-person worship at Hope
People move outside for communion at the end of worship

Dear People of Hope,

We did it! This Sunday about 45 people gathered at Hope for in-person worship, while about 20 households joined by zoom.  We had long-timers, newer folks, and some first-time visitors.  We ranged in age from pre-school to retirees.

Was it perfect - nope.  Was it worship - yep!

We'll continue this practice through the summer.  We are seeking additional worship volunteers to read scripture, lead prayers, welcome people to worship, count the offering donations, etc.  If you're interested to volunteer, contact Joan A on Sundays or Beth in the office.

See the announcements below about kid's Vacation Bible School Saturday, and Madeline's last worship service Sunday.

Thanks be to God,
   Pastor Julie
Vacation Bible School - What is God like?
Saturday July 17, 9am-12:15pm, in person at Hope

Teachers are so excited to announce that we will be having Vacation Bible School in person at Hope on Saturday, July 17 from 9:00am-12:15pm!  Our theme this year is "What is God Like?" Activities will be primarily outside, physically distanced, with masks optional for children and adults.  Bring a water bottle and wear your swimsuit.  We will be hearing stories, making crafts, dancing, eating snacks, playing in the sprinkler, and learning about God together in a way that is safe and fun for everyone. Grown-ups are invited (but not required) to stay with kids for the morning event. Please feel free to reach out with any questions about this event. We can't wait to see everyone in person!

Want to volunteer?

Want to contribute? VBS is looking for donations of:
  • Tubs to make into drums (oatmeal, pretzel, etc), ideally with lids
  • Grass sprinkler and/or slip’n’slide
You can bring these items to Hope or email Beth to arrange another exchange plan
Madeline's last Internship Sunday
Sunday July 18, 10:30am and celebration after worship

All year, Madeline has been a pastoral intern at Humble Walk and Hope.  She has met many of you for walks or outdoor communion, she has preached and led worship, she has led an Arts and Spirituality series. Now we celebrate her time with us at Hope and bless her final transition to ordained ministry.

Join us Sunday July 18, on zoom or in person for worship.  Madline will be preaching.  Then after worship, we'll celebrate together.  You are invited to write a card ahead of time to give to Madeline. Or we will have art and writing supplies available that day; you can make a card at Hope as well.  Can't be there on the 18th? Mail a card to Hope and we'll make sure Madeline receives it.
Beyond Worship, gathering at Hope
small group parameters

Hope's Council approved the below practices for group gatherings at Hope through July and August.  We are sharing these guidelines with Living Water SDA and the AA groups that previously met at Hope.  If you are a part of or would like to start a small group at Hope, reach out to Pastor Julie.

Groups may now gather at Hope with these basic safety parameters:
  • Outside - masks optional for any ages, any sized group
  • Inside – masks optional for groups of 15 or fewer vaccinated people
  • Inside – masks required for groups of 15 or more, and groups involving children and un-vaccinated people
  • Council will reevaluate in August to make fall plans, based on what local groups (including PG County Schools and UMD) are planning

Recently, Hope's council shared a Property Progress Report by zoom.  Leaders shared about hiring lawyers, protecting Hope's interests in this project, learning about zoning regulations, considering affordable housing options, assessing the value of the land, and where we go from here.  If you missed the conversation, you'll be able to find the recording on the google drive soon.  And please continue praying that the Spirit guides our process.

You can continue to find documents and past zoom meeting here. (listen or ask for the password):
