Hope wants to provide a monthly opportunity for people to connect with each other online. We’ll do this on the first Tuesday of each month, noon-1pm, by zoom. Join us for any or all of the below sessions, facilitated by Pastor Julie. We welcome suggestions of what may help you feel more connected.
Session One, February 7:
I was sick and in prison and you visited me
A letter recently arrived at Hope from a person in prison. The writer shares a bit of his story and shares that he is lonely and would enjoy connecting with someone and sharing ideas back and forth. Together we’ll hear this letter, share what similarities and differences resonate for us, and craft a letter to be mailed back to the writer.
Session Two, March 7:
God Holds You, A Pandemic Chronicle
A Lutheran pastor in this area recently published a book of her experiences and faithful reflections from the first year of the covid pandemic. We’ll hear some of the short vignettes and share our own memories and experiences of when things began to shut down, when we were exhausted, where we found hope, etc.
Session Three, April 4:
Topic TBD
Parking at Hope paid public parking for the community
If you are in College Park throughout the week, you know parking can be a challenge. Students, local construction staff and many others know this as well. This week, Hope joins a professionally managed parking program called ParkPoolr. Watch for new signage inviting neighbors to scan a QR code and pay for hourly or daily parking in the upper lot at Hope. Hope's Council is enthused that this will benefit Hope and the community in several ways:
simplified process for Hope's staff to oversee
income for Hope
sharing Hope's parking lot as a resource
Parking will remain free for church participants and all worship services. If you visit Hope throughout the week, park in the lower lot; on Saturday and Sundays, park anywhere. Contact Pastor Julie or a council member with any questions.
Hope is Hiring Continuing...
Hope's wonderful Administrative Assistant, Beth, has resigned from the position due to family needs. We are grateful for Beth's 5+ years of faithful service and we pray for her transition. Hope is now seeking a new Administrative Assistant. Find the job description on Hope's website and share it with any people or networks who might be interested.
Beth's final day is January 31. Hope will celebrate her years of service this Sunday, January 29, after worship.
Monthly Social Gatherings starting January 26, continuing all year
Saturday morning 5K
Sunday afternoon boat ride
Thursday evening visit to a museum
Friday night movie
Hope folks are beginning to gather for a series of monthly social gatherings. These will be times when we can be together and just have fun. They will be events where it is easy to invite friends or neighbors. These may be a mix of online or in-person events, with different people volunteering to "host" each one; this leads to natural variety and lots of fun. If you’d like to plan one of these gatherings, contact Pastor Julie - or look for a sign-up sheet in the entryway at Hope..
-----
Pastor Julie is hosting the first gathering: THIS Thursday January 26, 10-11am, Breakfast at IKEA. Join others for free parking, big sunny windows, delicious food and good conversation.
