Dear People of Hope,
This weekend when the community celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as a great civic leader, we in the church also remember that he was a preacher and a pastor, inspired by his faith in Jesus. There are several opportunities to listen and pray together and with our wider community.
1) This morning in worship we heard a portion of the Reverend King's final Sunday Sermon, "Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution." You can watch the full sermon here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFmP3YA3i9g
2) This morning we shared a special prayer for this inauguration week from Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, presiding bishop of the ELCA. You can re-read and continue to pray this prayer, found here: https://metrodcelca.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/A-Call-to-Prayer_FINAL-1.pdf
3) This afternoon at 4pm our synod releases a public reading of Rev. King's "Letter From a Birmingham Jail," read aloud by Lutherans who are African American.
