Pastor Julie (and Nimi) presides at the final Humble Walk worship

Dear People of Hope,

Summer is often a quiet season at church and a good time to do ministry and projects that don’t fit into the fuller schedule of the academic year.  This summer, I hope to have a relational visit with every member and community participant at Hope. I did this when I first came to Hope in 2015 and it was incredibly meaningful; over my first ~6 months in College Park, I met almost everyone in their homes, at Hope, or at a coffee shop.  Many of you will call the pastor for a major challenge or joy, but often don’t think to share the ups and downs of daily life with me.  I’m regularly surprised by what people are experiencing, and being in closer touch with you all guides my pastoral work and ministry.

I’m enthused for these summer connections.  By my guess, I’ll be reaching out and having conversations with about 75 people.  If you want to find a time to talk, sign up on Sunday morning, or reach out to me by phone or email.

Peace of Christ, and happy summer,
Pastor Julie
Pentecost Baptism, wear red
Sunday May 28, 10:30am worship

This Sunday, we celebrate the Holy Spirit with Pentecost.  We also celebrate the baptism of baby Vance B.  Pray for his family as they prepare for his baptism.  And plan to wear red, the color of fire, to celebrate the Spirit among us.
Faith Conversation Group
Tuesdays, 7-8pm, summer at Hope

This summer, Pat N is hosting a conversation group where people are invited to listen to a podcast, discuss it together, create some community, and keep one another in prayer. The podcast is hosted by Pastor Brian McLaren, and reflects on the theme of staying Christian in a changing world.  Reach out to Pat for more information.

Humble Walk on Summer Break
final worship, graduation gala, summer trip

Humble Walk hosted their final worship of the semester last week, and the Graduation Gala this week.

This week, students depart for their summer trip, traveling to Michigan to learn with and about indigenous communities there, through an immersion experience. We pray for safe and meaningful travels.
Blessing the Bus Journey
Sunday June 18, 10:45am after morning worship

Humble Walk alum and Hope member, Addie S, has bought a school bus and is refurbishing it into a mobile home.  She and Brandon plan to drive the bus around the country on a grand adventure.  Join Addie and Brandon to bless the bus as they set out on the journey in late June (new date).
9:30am Summer Worship at Hope
starting in June, accounting for the heat

Do you remember worship at Hope last summer? It was often hot, even with the AC running.  Turns out the AC wasn't working properly, and won't be working again this summer.  With Hope exploring selling the property, a costly repair doesn't make sense at this time.  Council has recommended some changes to make summer worship in person manageable.

In June and July:
  • Sunday worship will begin at 9:30am, when the air is a little cooler
  • Fans will be running
  • Cold drinks are welcome
  • AC will be running downstairs in the student lounge for people who need a break
  • Attendees are encouraged to wear weather appropriate clothing
  • Zoom worship will continue
Contact any member of council to learn more.  We'll reevaluate and plan for August, with the hope to return to 10:30am worship in time for UMD's return in the fall.
