Dear People of Hope,
It is Holy Week. There are special services throughout the week, listed above and below. Please join us to hear this central story of our faith, shared in community, throughout the week. Invite others to join us as well.
If you simply can't join us in person- or even if you can- watch this series from the Metro DC Synod's Racial Equity team. Seven different preachers, speak briefly on the seven last words of Christ, and how these words connect to racial equity today. Bishop Richard Graham preaches the first video, above and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT9fgGwA7Xg

Clean-Up Service Opportunities: Thanks to all who participated in this past Sunday's clean-up afternoon. There was power-washing, gardening, book-shelf organizing, sanctuary dusting, brass polishing, etc. This week, come Saturday April 20, from 3-5pm we will decorate for Easter.
Easter Breakfast Potluck: Sunday April 20, come at 9am for breakfast. Bring food to share if you are able.
Moms in Community Group EVERY Friday through May 24, 11am-1pm
Hope has started a drop-in support group, Moms in Community, for pregnant women and new and breastfeeding moms. Four-to-six women attended the first session. People may come for free support and connection, to meet other parents and parents-to-be, to relax with tea, snacks, and conversation. A professional lactation consultant (IBCLC) will be present to answer any questions and offer additional support. Older siblings welcome. Contact Paulette T with any questions.
News of the Community:
Giant Gift Cards discontinued: For years, Hope has sold gift cards to Giant grocery stores as a simple fund raiser. The program has been discontinued and you won't be seeing these gift cards around Hope in coming weeks. Paul T is researching other options to for simple fundraising to support ministry projects at Hope.
July Ball Game: Dick & Joan A are hosting a Family Outing to a Nationals baseball game on Saturday, July 6th. The opponent is the Kansas City Royals & the start time is 4:05 p.m. The cost is $19 a ticket and we will sit together in Section 405. That is on the third base side of the field (in the shade). To ensure our sitting together, they need to be informed of your interest by May 1st.
Seeking Children’s Books: Lutheran Campus Ministry’s weekly mentoring program, CARing Kids, builds self-esteem and develops self-image and social abilities through improving the language, reading, and math skills in local, at-risk elementary school children. Between now and May 5th they seek to replenish the library of 1st to 6th grade books. All donations of new or gently used books are welcome and tax deductible. Contact Hope’s office for more information about the book drive and Lutheranterps.com about our program.
Inviting New Worship Assistants: Sunday morning a large group of people volunteers to support worship- and we’re inviting more. Our theology is that anyone may serve in any role. If you’re interested, contact Joan A and she’ll make sure you learn what you need to know and get added to the rotation. Some options are:
• Altar Care – prepare the space for Communion and clean up after
• Usher – welcome people to worship and guide them forward for communion
• Communion Assistant – serve the wine
• Assisting Minister – sit up front with the pastor and lead parts of worship
• Offering counter – work with a partner to record the money given after worship
• Coffee Hour Host – make coffee and bring snacks to support fellowship after worship
Interested in something you don’t see here? Just ask.
Kids Sunday School: Children and families are invited at 9am one Sunday per month to learn the stories of faith and have a great time together. This semester we'll gather the First Sunday of each month: last one of the year is May 5.
