Dear People of Hope,

Holy Week begins this Sunday.  In the coming week, we'll have special worship services to hear the story of Jesus' final days: last supper, betrayal, conviction, death, and then resurrection.

This is always a great time of year to invite newcomers to church.  Even if you're nervous, people are often looking for a place to attend these special services.  And you never know how God is working in other people's lives.

Sunday during morning announcements, I reminded us all to think about who we might invite to Easter worship- and then to invite then.  Then, unplanned, my husband Silas stood up and shared additional encouragement.  He said, "I am a Christian today because in 2006 someone, who didn't know the details of what was going on in my life, invited me to Easter worship.  It really does matter when you invite people to church."

I had heard this story from Silas many times before.  Silas didn't grow up Christian, and that Easter morning in 2006 God met him in a specific and personal way, within a morning worship service.  It was powerful to hear this as we approach Easter worship at Hope.

Peace of Christ,
Pastor Julie
Special Events for Holy Week
Sunday April 14 - 20

Clean-Up Service Opportunities: Sunday April 14, bring a packed lunch.  After worship from noon-2pm we'll do a big indoor/outdoor clean-up day to prepare for Holy Week.  Several of our SDA neighbors will join us as well.  Then Saturday April 20, from 3-5pm we will decorate for Easter.

From the Easter Bunny: Hope is collecting donations of plastic eggs and treats to put inside for the children's egg hunt this Easter.  Special appreciation for non-food items because of kids' possible allergies: look for stickers, tiny toys, hand stamps, bubbles, etc.  There will be a collection box in the entryway at Hope through this Sunday April 14.

Easter Lilies: Hope is accepting orders for Easter Lilies through this Sunday April 14.  You may donate a lily in memory of someone who has died or in honor of someone who is living.  Hope uses the plants to decorate for Easter morning worship, then after worship, you may take the plants home with you.  Each plant is $12; you can find order forms in the entryway at Hope or by contacting Beth in the church office.

Easter Breakfast Potluck: Sunday April 20, come at 9am for breakfast.  Bring food to share if you are able.
Moms in Community Group
EVERY Friday through March 24, 11am-1pm

Hope is beginning a drop-in support group, Moms in Community, for pregnant women and new and breastfeeding moms. Four-six women attended the first session.  People may come for free support and connection, to meet other parents and parents-to-be, to relax with tea, snacks, and conversation. A professional lactation consultant (IBCLC) will be present to answer any questions and offer additional support. Older siblings welcome.  Contact Paulette T with any questions.
News of the Community:

Giant Gift Cards discontinued: For years, Hope has sold gift cards to Giant grocery stores as a simple fund raiser.  The program has been discontinued and you won't be seeing these gift cards around Hope in coming weeks.  Paul T is researching other options to for simple fundraising to support ministry projects at Hope.

Seeking Children’s Books: Lutheran Campus Ministry’s weekly mentoring program, CARing Kids, builds self-esteem and develops self-image and social abilities through improving the language, reading, and math skills in local, at-risk elementary school children. Between now and May 5th they seek to replenish the library of 1st to 6th grade books. All donations of new or gently used books are welcome and tax deductible. Contact Hope’s office for more information about the book drive and about our program.

Living Water SDA Invitation: Every Saturday a Seventh Day Adventist Congregation worships at Hope.  This Saturday April 13, they have a special service of foot washing and holy communion and we are invited to join them.  Come at 10:45am.  This will be a meaningful experience to join our siblings in Christian faith.

Inviting New Worship Assistants: Sunday morning a large group of people volunteers to support worship- and we’re inviting more.  Our theology is that anyone may serve in any role.  If you’re interested, contact Joan A and she’ll make sure you learn what you need to know and get added to the rotation.  Some options are:
•    Altar Care – prepare the space for Communion and clean up after
•    Usher – welcome people to worship and guide them forward for communion
•    Communion Assistant – serve the wine
•    Assisting Minister – sit up front with the pastor and lead parts of worship
•    Offering counter – work with a partner to record the money given after worship
•    Coffee Hour Host – make coffee and bring snacks to support fellowship after worship
Interested in something you don’t see here? Just ask.

Kids Sunday School: Children and families are invited at 9am one Sunday per month to learn the stories of faith and have a great time together.  This semester we'll gather the First Sunday of each month: last one of the year is May 5.
