The most wonderful time of the year - for readers!

Dear Friends -

The massive oak tree outside my office window has finally shed its leaves, and the forecasters are promising more snow than usual this month. That means I need to stock up on lots (and lots and lots) of books to read, don't you think?

I offer up this December Cocktail, in case you find yourself in similar circumstances!
Ingredient One: A Jane Madison Yule Story

Last year, I contributed a Jane Madison short story to a holiday anthology. Now that story is available as a stand-alone! "Dreaming of a Witch Christmas" takes place a few months after the events in Joy of Witchcraft. If you haven't read that novel yet and you don't want to be spoiled on a major plot point, then skip down to Ingredient Two right now!

I'm totally, 100% serious!

The blurb printed after the book cover reveals a major plot point!

Don't blame me, if you don't stop reading this "ingredient" now!

Okay... Here's the blurb for "Dreaming of a Witch Christmas":

It’s beginning to look a lot like Yuletide…

And newlywed Jane Madison needs to find a gift for her warder David Montrose. A pen set and a necktie would be easy, but those are hardly gifts of the heart. Fortunately, Jane does a little witchy research and discovers the perfect present. But now that she’s found it, she’s not certain she can afford it – in terms of money or of magic! Will Yule turn out to be the most wonderful time of the year? Or is Jane destined for a blue Christmas?

(See, I told you!)

You can pick up your copy of "Dreaming" at most major ebook sellers:

Ingredient Two:  Retreating from the Real World

Last month, I went on a writing retreat with author Maria V. Snyder.  For nearly a week, we lived in a cabin in the middle of Gifford Pinchot State Park in Pennsylvania. The cabin had a kitchen, a bathroom, and electricity, but it didn't have any Internet access (and only limited cell phone connectivity).  We spent our time writing, eating, writing, taking walks around the lake, writing, talking about publishing, writing, writing, and writing.

Here's a view of the lake that was right outside the cabin door!

I used the retreat to draft my next Harmony Springs book, The Way You Look Tonight, which you'll be able to read in late spring.  (If you haven't checked out my Harmony Springs contemporary romance series yet, you can read about it here -- including free samples from each of the books!)
Ingredient Three:  For Folks Who Just Can't Get Enough Christmas Stories

To celebrate the season, I'm participating in the Very Merry Christmas Bundle. If you've never bought a bundle before, here's how it works:

1.  You go to the website:
2.  You decide whether you want to buy five Christmas stories or 20.
3.  You decide if you want to pay $2.99 (for five) or $4.99 (for 20, including "Dreaming of a Witch Christmas.)
4.  You decide if you want to donate 10% of your purchase price to either the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or The Humane Society (at no extra cost to you).
5.  You download your new books onto your ereader!

There are some amazing stories in this bundle.  But there's one catch!  You have to order by December 6! So what are you waiting for?  Check out the bundle today!
Ingredient Four: A Quick Easy Recipe -- Dutch Butter Cake

Over the next three weeks, I have four holiday potlucks to attend.  For at least one of them, I'll be making a Dutch butter cake, with a Klasky twist.  Ready for the easiest recipe you'll make this holiday season?

Preheat oven to 350.

In a medium size bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 2/3 cup sugar.  In the microwave, melt two sticks of salted butter.  (Don't have salted butter?  Melt two sticks of unsalted butter, and add 1/4 teaspoon salt to the flour and sugar.) Mix together the dry ingredients and the melted butter until just combined.  Stir in 3/4 cup brickle candy (like Heath bits).

Press into a foil-lined 8" x 8" pan.  Bake for 30 minutes.  Cool and cut into pieces.  Bring copies of the recipe to hand out to friends.
Ingredient Five: Fly Me to the Moon is Back for the Holidays!

Here's one last offering, if you're hankering for a Christmas book!  Fly Me to the Moon is the first book in my Harmony Springs series.  USA Today said about it: "The writing is phenomenal, the story even better, the realism both heartrending and heartening…How [the hero and heroine] come to terms with what they’ve been through, the lies they believe about themselves and how desperately they need each other makes for a sweet, shattering, soul-satisfying read."

Still not convinced?  Here's the back-of-the-book blurb:

Lexi Taylor never let herself be defined by the fire that burned her when she was just a kid.  Now, she happily works at The Christmas Cat, a year-round holiday boutique. So what if she wears long sleeves to hide her scars? Who cares if her relationships don't last long enough for a lover to see her damaged back?

Tom "Finn" Finnegan is one week out of the Army, fresh from Afghanistan. He vowed to visit the parents of J-Dawg, his best friend who was killed by a roadside bomb almost a year ago. But promises are easier made than kept--especially when J-Dawg haunts Finn's dreams.

When Finn literally stumbles into The Christmas Cat, he shatters dozens of ornaments, not to mention Lexi's peace of mind. The only way he can repay her is to take on handyman work in her store. But "other duties as assigned" takes on new meaning when sparks sizzle between the couple. Can Lexi and Finn find the key to healing each other's scars as Christmas approaches in Harmony Springs?

Okay. You're still not sure?  Then why not read the first chapter for free?

I hope you're enjoying the holiday season as much as I am!  As always, I'd love to hear from you -- on Facebook or Twitter or on my website in response to a blog post.  If you can't think of anything else to talk about, tell me your favorite holiday tradition!

As always, feel free to share this newsletter with anyone who might be interested.  Keep in touch!

Best wishes --
