I was reminded by a reading yesterday of the connection between body and mind.
Most often, we think of this in terms of issues in our mind creating dis-ease in our body. Yet, it is a two way system.
Did you know that the second most common physical complaint in the western world is backache?
While there are several different kinds of back pain, a frequent one is associated with hunching. Fear and uncertainty make us hunch over. Equally, many chairs, or the general design of working space, can do the same. For me, I notice myself hunching over my toddler, to protect him and to get closer to eye level with him.
And just as fear and uncertainty can cause us to hunch, doing so for more physical reasons can make us more fearful.
Not only fear, either. This posture reminds me of the figure in the Four of Pentacles, arms wrapped tightly around a Pentacle.
What this position does is close off your heart!
It leads, also, to jealousy and envy, to resentment and feelings of lack. Plenty of reasons to do something to counteract this.
So, what to do?
Fortunately, there are plenty of simple and effective practices that can be easily fitted into your day-to-day
. All it takes is a bit of mindfulness - or setting a reminder on your phone :D
For instance, you could make sure to do some kind of heart opening posture for at least 30 seconds every hour or so.
You can do this pretty much anywhere.
Just sitting here reading this, take a moment to sit up tall and let your hands dangle at your sides, palms facing forward. Then, start to lift your heart towards the sky, allowing your head to drop back a little as your face turns upward. Breathe deeply into your heart space, and let a smile come to your face :)
There are plenty of other heart-opening postures you could try - I give some more suggestions in my Chakra Magic Ebook
Another practice that fits quite easily into even the busiest of schedules is to create a heart-opening affirmation. And I love supercharging these by using a pendulum as reinforcement. I talk about how to do that in this video
. And about how to use a pendulum to recognise and heal chakra imbalances in this video
My affirmation for this week is going to be "I open my heart with loving kindness"...
How about you, <<First Name>>? Do you ever find yourself hunching over? Might you feel more joyful if you consciously worked to open your heart
a little this week? I wonder what other changes you might notice, in your emotions and your body, if you did...
