Double your gift through match giving and bless refugee children, youth and families in at - risk neighbourhood with a summer to remember

AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We can double your gift through a $20,000 match donation!
Most of us spend our summers making wonderful memories while on vacations, at cottages, in summer camps or enjoying BBQ's. Sadly, for the many children, youth and families we serve at Connect City this is an impossibility and we want to do something about it. We are currently serving families new to our country who are asylum seekers having escaped social and religious persecution. These refugee families have come to Toronto seeking peace. We are also deeply involved in a Scarborough government housing neighbourhood that can easily experience a spike in violence far too prevalent during the summer months in our government housing neighbourhoods. Compelled by the love of Christ we at Connect City are planning to give our people an amazing summer to remember. We will run a summer camp for refugee children living in hotels. We are also building a team of local youth to host peace programs in their Scarborough government housing neighbourhood to run neighbourhood BBQ's, family movie nights, weekly sports programs, a drop - in for youth, etc. We just know that God will be with us and our people will have an amazing summer as they experience Jesus' presence and his peace through his body at Connect City.

We invite you to join us to bring a summer to remember for these precious souls. Through the kindness of an anonymous donor we have been promised a $20,000 match gift. This means our donor will match every donation that comes in for our summer program from May 17 - June 30, dollar for dollar up to $20,000!! So, if you donate $10 our donor will match it and it becomes a $20 donation. If you give $25 it becomes a $50 gift. A $100 donation becomes a $200.00 donation and so on.  Each dollar given will be matched by our friend of the ministry up to $20,000!  We hope to have $20,000 dollars in support come in by the match deadline of June 30th so we can reach the $40,000 match!!

Please forward this email to friends and family and join us in helping bring Jesus' peace this summer by supporting the Match Challenge allowing us to give our people an amazing summer to remember. A SPECIAL INVITATION FOR YOU TO COME AND SEE JESUS!!
SoulHouse Baptism

I love the story how two disciples of John the Baptist got really curious about Jesus because of what they heard about him. Their inquiring minds got the best of them so they went to check Jesus out. Lacking solid snooping skills they were quickly found out. We read in John 1: 38, 39 that;

Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”  “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon."

After spending a day with Jesus these two snoops became committed followers of him simply because they experienced Jesus!

This story has much to teach us today. In our post - Christian culture people are easily turned off by religion due to a lack of trust in institutional Christianity and some of the hypocrisy associated with it. Because of this Jesus' words; "Come and you will see" have more impact than ever.  People need to see and experience Jesus not just hear about him in a religious context. I see the truth of Jesus' words in our SoulHouse Church where people "come and see" experiencing Jesus every Monday night around the table for a great dinner, fellowship, prayer and encouragement from God's Word. Here we encounter Jesus through the body of Christ meeting together in this warm and inviting "come and see" type of house church.

The power of Jesus' words to "come and see" is also very evident in a tough government housing neighbourhood in Scarborough. Here many young people "come and see" Jesus in a judgment free zone  through our staff and each other in the safe and embracing community where they are valued as part of the body of Christ.

I get to "come and see" Jesus in the wonderful children and their parents living in emergency housing for asylum seekers each time we gather together with them. We all experience a spirit of love and acceptance knowing each others sacred value as God's children. These times together are truly a "come and see" experience as we feel Jesus' presence with us when we are together with our so called displaced friends who, in God's eyes, are never displaced from his love.

Jesus is still saying to us today; "Come and you will see". Jesus is not an institutionalized religion. Jesus smashes all loneliness. Jesus is all about relationships we get to participate in, as the body of Christ. All we have to do is come to where Jesus is and I guarantee that you will see him among the poor, the refugee, the urban youth, the lonely, the hurting, among all of us broken people as we gather in the name of Jesus.

So, here is my word of encouragement to you. I want you to see Jesus this summer. So, I invite you to "come and see" our ministry. Feel free to contact me and I will set up a short tour with you to see what we are doing so that you can "come and you will see" Jesus among those we love and serve. This invitation is open to you so please feel free to contact me at colin@connectministries.org and we will set up a time to tour one of our sites this summer. "Come and you will see" Jesus.
