Connecting Our Support Team To What God Is Doing Through Connect City
Refugee Children From Our Christmas Party Will Now Be Able To Enjoy Summer Camp!

We at Connect City are so excited to inform you we have stepped out in great faith by committing to running 2 amazing summer camp styled programs for this summer. Now let's see what God does!!!

The first camp we are running is for children who are asylum seekers (refugees) living in two local hotels used as emergency housing. An Asylum Seeker is defined as;

“A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.”

The children we serve in these hotels definitely live up to this description as they have have left countries in turmoil like Nigeria and Syria, etc to escape persecution, war and death. There are over 800 children living in these two hotels and we were able to host 8 separate Christmas parties for all these children this past December. It was such a success that the government agency in charge of emergency housing asked us to host a summer camp for these children as they have nothing to do this summer. Now, how can you say “no” to this request? So, with no money we have went out in faith trusting that God will provide us funding to hire young leaders to run this camp. We realize we cannot reach all 800 children but we can reach some. Our plan is to host over 40 plus different kids per week for seven weeks reaching over 280 children. What an opportunity we have to be “Jesus” to these children and their families.

Please pray for Brittany MacGowan as she continues to do a great job in leading our ministry in these hotels. Ask God to provide the finances we need for this summer program and to hire amazing young adults as staff. Also, pray for wisdom as Brittany interviews potential staff. Through our witness of loving deeds, friendships and Gospel words we believe Jesus will be exalted and many will come to know him as Lord. Now, that is something to pray about.
Warden Youth In Scarborough Warden Underground Church
Connect is also stepping out in faith through our church plant in our Scarborough government housing community to host a “Me To We” type neighbourhood peace program. As many of you know there tends to be a spike in violence during the summer months in our government housing neighbourhoods. As representatives of the “Prince of Peace” we feel this is something Christ can deal with.  So, we will be heading up a team of local neighbourhood youths who will commit to bringing God’s peace to their neighbourhood.

Our Peace Project will plan community events to bring unity and camaraderie within the community through weekly events like free neighbourhood BBQ and sports nights, a weekly drop in centre, family movie nights, children’s programs, etc. Through this program we will develop young leaders living in the neighbourhood to transform their streets with God’s peace and, at the same time, impact the community by drawing families and friends together for unifying experiences.

As Isaiah 55:12 says;

“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

I can't wait to see the trees in this neighbourhood clapping their hands!! I do know that children and youth will be blessed and families restored as we "go out in joy and are led forth in peace"!

Please join us as we pray this verse over the neighbourhood during the summer and pray for Jon Folkeringa as he has been assigned to head up this peace program. Ask God to provide the funds he needs to hire young people from the neighbourhood to be part of his team as well as for funds to operate great peace making programs in the community. Pray that Jesus our "Prince of Peace" will serve through us so we can be his hands and feet. Finally, pray for Pastor Jordan Thoms who will be working with Jon and building the Warden Underground church in tandem with the summer programs this team creates.
We want to see more messy tables because messy tables mean children are having a great summer.

Match Gift Challenge: May 19 - June 30.

From May 19 - June 30 we will be able to double every donation we receive for our summer programs! That’s right - for every dollar given to our summer programs for refugee children, their families and the families living in Warden Woods an anonymous donor will match it, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000! That’s a great kingdom investment. Please stay tuned for another email detailing how you and your friends can take advantage of this amazing opportunity to make a difference in a child or family’s life this summer. So, step out in faith with Connect as we plunge head into God's mission knowing that he will supply our every need through his people like you.

A special shout out of congratulations to our Pastor at SoulHouse Church who received her Masters Of Arts In Leadership And Management - "Cum Laude". With this degree Judith will continue to bring her wise leadership expertise working with our team in guiding our ministry and church plants in the present and future.

Judith worked very hard in carving out time from her busy schedule as a Pastor, friend, mother and wife to participate in classes, studying, reading and writing papers in acquiring this degree. I don't know how she did it but she pulled it off. Well done Judith!! We love and are proud of you as you continue to develop the Lord’s gifts he has given you for his service.  Our Connect City team continues to benefit from you and the gifts God has given to you.
We have created a new logo for Connect City that we feel depicts our mission. You will notice that the logo is wrapped in a "C" which is the first letter for "Connect" and it also is the first letter in "Christ". Connect City is all about connecting people to Christ.

You will also notice a tree in our logo. This tree represents two things - the "Tree of Life" as well as the "Kingdom of God".  As Jesus said;

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” - Matthew 13: 31, 32

We envision the churches we plant as trees representing kingdom of God hubs within the city planting trees of life through the things we do.

The leaves on the tree represent the various and diverse people, church plants and ministries we are involved in. The colour of the leaves  also represent various blessings from God as follows:
* Red Leaves - the eternal grace we have through the blood of Jesus.
* Green Leaves - The holistic growth God brings us
* Yellow Leaves - Our position as children of the king
* Purple Leaves - The kingship of Jesus over the earth
* Blue Leaves - The healing power of God
Finally we see the tree providing shade and respite from the elements to our city skyline which is our mission and mission field.

Help us build leaders in our city who will lead simple churches to be beacons of light in the darkness of our urban neighbourhoods.
Jesus said he is the light of the world and told us to;

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:16

We sure do a lot at Connect City & we couldn't do it without God working through people like you.

With your help we seek to shine the light of Jesus in our city by being the body of Christ planted throughout neighbourhoods in simple, "New Testament" type churches through hospitality, kindness & Spirit - filled love for Jesus & others.

We don't have high tech programs or expensive buildings to maintain but focus on people through loving mission & nurturing relationships meeting in homes, community centers or any other place that is welcoming to people. We envision that one day we will see hundreds of simple churches spreading throughout our city as beacons of light amidst the darkness & despair that is present in far too many neighbourhoods. This is why we are serious about building young leaders to build inner - city churches that participate in the progress of the Gospel in government housing projects & beyond.
Please consider how you can be part of our simple church movement through supporting us financially or in prayer or even volunteering. We depend on God's people to provide the support our pastors / missionaries need so they can be freed up to serve their communities & the people they reach among the poor & hurting.
