Greetings RDRP Newsletter
The dog days of summer are upon us and we need to remember how life is for ALL the beautiful greyhounds that are at the Adoption Center and in foster care. We currently have over 2 dozen awesome and patiently waiting houndies that are trying their best to beat the summer heat, storms, and mosquitoes while waiting! We have one of the best facilities in the USA but we need everyone to do ALL they can do! Foster homes are a GREYT benefit to get our pups in optimal surroundings and conditions, and volunteering really helps the greys on a daily basis, as well as donations. Contact RDRP to find out how you can help!
Please remember to volunteer during our onsite full-time caretakers vacation and really step-UP for the greyhounds! We also have LOTS of opportunities year round for you to enrich the lives of greyhounds as well as your own... just ask! Thanks!

Triangling
(Also called Pyramid Head)

Much like the term "triangulating" the greyhound possess the ability to discern where any sound is coming from by focusing their ears and following the sound with great ease..

With their pointy ears and pointy snout they create the perfect apparatus to alert you to exactly where something noisy is, so you can rest assured what ever it is,is being thuroughly investigated by your hound!

A GREYT Volunteer and VP+ of the RDRP Board ~
Geri Harrison

This months spotlight is on a woman who always gives 110% of her time and heart. Geri is a truly dedicated and remarkable person and RDRP would be lost without her! She works tirelessly and lovingly for the well-being of the greyhounds and makes everyone she meets understand the importance of the RDRP mission while making greyt long-term human friends in the process! Thank you Geri!

When Geri was asked a few quick questions about her volunteerism with RDRP her responses were as follows -

When did you start working with RDRP?
"I started volunteering with RDRP right after my hubby died, in the fall of 2006.
What gives you the most joy in working with RDRP?
The most joy is definitely every time a greyhound is  adopted and moves into a furever home.
What is the most difficult part of working with RDRP?
There really isn't a difficult part...but sometimes I am very saddened when I see one of the  greys at our adoption center being passed over and having to stay a bit longer."

Accolades of admiration and friendship from a few fellow Board Members -
"The first contact I probably had with Geri was probably when she was at a RDRP Picnic Meeting in 2010 sharing pictures of her foster “Baby” who had been mauled by a pack of male greys. She had tubes in her a bite marks etc. Geri was changing bandages 2-3 times a day medicating, etc. Baby did find the best home ever. with GERI. She also has Buddy who was a bounce. She just recently was called about an older dog walking on Fruitville Road who she brought into her home & took care of until our wonderful foster Jeanine took him & was reunited with his family. I guess what I am saying is she is so dedicated in helping to find forever homes & best of care for this wonderful breed she is in the right place as VEEP & coordinator for Adoptions but she also finds time to coordinate some M&G & educating the public. I don’t know how she does it all but we sure are lucky to have her.  She always could use some help & a thank you is always nice. THANK YOU GERI" ~ Cyndi Toale

"Geri is truly one of a kind. Her curriculum vitae reads like a romantic novel when it comes to her years of experience and devotion to greyhounds and RDRP.
I have never met anyone with more passion and dedication for greyhound rescue."
  ~Susan Cavanaugh, Board Member

"Geri has done wonders with our group and our mission of adopting.  She is devoted beyond belief and always has the best interest of every dog at heart.  She has friends that she pulls out of no where and finds homes when the impossible seems like it may become a reality.  She is ultimately responsible for every thing and every dog at the adoption center.
I am very proud to work with her and be a part of RDRP." ~ Elaine Leitten

Please Foster us so we have a better chance at finding our furever homes quicker! Oh what a life. Can you imagine not knowing what happens next? Wondering if there is more? The life of a greyhound waiting for his or her forever home is often long, lonely & uncertain. People come and go… and the beautiful grey waits.

Some greyhounds are selected and adopted fairly quickly and some may wait for many many months or seasons at no fault of there own.

Fur Fun Summer Camp Program

CampRDRP has been participating in the HSSC's Fur Fun Summer Camp Program for several years.  It is really quite  simple.  You show up with your grey and spend about 1/2 hour educating the campers about greyhounds.

We introduce the greyhounds to the children, have each owner tell a little about their dog(s), explain all the unusual things about greys. The campers are ages 7-12.

We meet at 2:50 outside the HSSC property in SRQ.  The Education Center is air conditioned and very nice.  We spend just about about 1/2 hour and the kids love it.

Come out and help -  cell (685-4509) or email her at idlerichh@aol.com

Con-GREYT-ulations!!!

Greyhound ZeusGrety news! GF Zeus, the handsome two and a half year old white and brindle love bug has found his forever home.
He was adopted yesterday by Beth any Miesch and Colby Carell of Lakeland Fl. Zeus, who loves to give kisses, will be enjoying his new home with Bethany and Colby's 10 year old female Boston Terrier. All of us at RDRP are so happy for Zeus and his new family. Send us lots of pictures. Congratulations!!!

Do YOU have space for a short term foster?

Thank you to all our foster families! Let's all try to help with this! If we find some short term foster homes, we can start to get our male greys neutered. For an uncomplicated neutering, just a few days recovery in a foster home would be sufficient. This would likely expedite adoptions, and also help mellow the pups.
If you might be able to help out with short term foster care, or other types of foster care, contact Geri Harrison. RDRP will help make your foster experience a meaningful one!
To contact Geri, call her cell (685-4509) or email her at idlerichh@aol.com
