Greetings RDRP Newsletter

Here at Racing Dog Retirement Project we are off to a busy New Year! We have a full house of extraordinary hounds, each and every one of them deserving, ready and certainly to be forever appreciative when adopted. If RDRP had one wish right now it would be for FOSTER families! Short term foster families allow us to get all the medical (neuter/teeth/etc) completed for quicker adoptions. Longer term foster care really helps prepare our greys for their future homes! Please consider opening your home and changing a life.

We are delighted to have some new volunteers on board for hound walking and kennel cleaning! It is always greyt to see new faces, meet new folks and watch as their potential blossoms! ALL volunteers bring something special to RDRP and we believe they all get a lot from their experiences!

Please like our facebook and Twitter pages and help spread the word about RDRP and our wonderful greyhounds. It's friends like you that take the extra moment to make sure our houndies are getting all the attention and support they need and deserve!

Fostering Greyhounds! The reward is knowing that we've played a part in changing their lives. Fostering a former racing greyhound is a profound gift to the hound, the adopter and to the people who foster.

Hank Adopted!

adopted hankRC Hankiswiser (“Hank”) was adopted today by Barbara and Bill Hays of Nokomis. They met Hank  at our monthly open house. Hank is a very special 2 year old black boy with a very gentle manner. Long time Greyhound parents, Barbara and Bill knew immediately he was the special boy they have been waiting for. He’s going to share his new home with their pretty little female cat.

Hank had been fostered by Nancy Sorg, who did a fabulous job getting him prepared for his new home.

Congratulations to Hank and his new family from all your RDRP friends. We hope to see you at our meet and greets too.

Kats adoptedKats Greyhound Adopted!!

CH Kats Meow (Kats) has been adopted. Justin and Elizabeth Erdos of Ellenton have officially adopted Kats today.

Kats is a stunning 4 year old black girl they have been fostering. Kats shares her new home with the Erdos’ cat, Italian Greyhound and their boxer/bulldog mix. What a greyt family.

Congratulations from your RDRP family.

Chappie adoptedChappie Has A Furever Home!

WW'S Chaperone, the sweet 2 year old red fawn girl better known as Chappie, was adopted today by Dr. Lisa Merritt and her daughter Amara!

We all knew it was love at first sight at the open house where the Merritts met Chappie. She knew they would give her a loving forever home.

Congratulations to Chappie and her new family from all your RDRP friends!!

01/28/07 Happy 10th Birthday Dear Fly Boy!!
Charlene and Terry Proeger's gorgeous boy will be 10 years young on the 28th. He loves going on long walks and adventures with his humans and houndie brother Scotty. Hope your day is greyt! Love from RDRP!
RDRP received this darling note from greyhound Casey!

Hi everyone, it's me Casey (aka Whamy), I wanted to share that my furless mom is doing her best to make me happy. I've had many new experiences and plenty of love. My birthday is coming up on January 15th. My mom said I can share with my still waiting to be adopted sisters and brothers. Enclosed please find a check for $75. My mom wishes it could be more but she says I eat too much. I don't think so, I still have my girlish figure. If I keep her walking me she will too. Love to all and my mom says she is always talking up adopting a greyhound. She said my sweet personality and good manners help.

Love,
Casey and my furless mom Leila Pinkava.

And a GREYT big Happy 5th Birthday to you Casey from your family at RDRP!

01/21/2017 Happy Gotcha Day Kenzi!

"Can't believe it's been one year already!!! We are so lucky that Kenzi picked us to be her forever family!!!

So thankful to RDRP for letting us adopt her and for all the support this last year!" ~ Mommy Casey
Peg & MikePeg Murphy was the woman responsible for RDRP starting. She was so knowledgeable about greyhounds and was a go to for advice.

Peg Murphy, she was one in a million. Both she and Mike never refused to take a "problem" greyhound (or any other) dog.
She was so knowledgeable about greyhounds and was a go to for advice. She was respected and well loved in the greyhound world. They had many "foster kids" throughout the years. Peg and Mike were simple folks with huge hearts. We all will miss them terribly.

Peg left this earth on December 27th, 2016 proceeded by her husband Mike on October 24th, 2016.

Glenna and Malcolm Roberts have taken in Pegs 2 senior dogs, Zoe & Mister. It gives me greyt pleasure to post these pictures of Peg's two senior dogs that now have a new home. They are permanent fosters of Glenna and Malcolm Roberts. Zoe seems quite content with their baby goats too. Mister not so interested .
Thank you Glenna for opening your home. I'm sure Peggy is smiling...

Another awesome pic from Jim & Elaine!

Spotlight on Volunteer Ken!
What's not to love about volunteer Ken Smith! If ever a fella was totally "In-tune" with the greyhounds it's Ken, and he speaks hound like no other. Ken has been a volunteer with RDRP for several years now and every hound he has met has benefited from him being there. Ken always adds that special touch to everything he does from making sure the AC is clean, the kidz are extra content or sprucing up the place with decorations during holiday times, Ken is 100% here for the hounds & RDRP Team Greyhound.

Need greyt advice... ask Ken. He has a wealth of knowledge and also has this greyt way of making all the humans feel inspired too! He really is a greyt friend and is super special!

Ken also creates PAWtastic greyhound decals that show the spirit of the greyhound walker and lover.

houndsThen there's Ken’s program to keep a supply of high quality biscuits thru Bone Appetite. Ken’s collection jar gathers a constant stream of cash, and Kathy Pontillo keeps the next box of bones at her store, for when the pups are ready for more, such Greyt team work!

Ken is the proud daddy of two of RDRP's greyhound kidz. He adopted beautiful Tommy, and then fostered (and failed) handsome Comet to make up their happy trio!

Thank you Ken for all you do!

For ALL the details visit our page!
And of course we must mention this magnificent new loo, water closet, powder room, privy... lots of terms for this particular room, but the GREYT news is RDRP now has one!

Convenience is everything. Thank you to Lonnie  for making this terrific space for the volunteers and our guests during events!
If RDRP had one wish right now it would be for FOSTER families! Fostering greys allows them a better chance at finding furever homes quicker! The life of a greyhound waiting for his or her forever home is often long, lonely & uncertain. People come and go… and the beautiful grey waits. RDRP is trying to get our kidz nueter/spay procedures done and we can not do that unless we have foster families following the procedure.

RDRP will help make your foster experience a meaningful one! Learn more about FOSTERING here...
