The Greyhound Roo.
AKA Rooing or Howling, but with a style and harmony so soothing to the ears humans invariably are compelled to join it! When the Rooing starts greyhounds will sing together, in 4 part harmony, 5 part... 10!  Get one started and a whole group will quickly follow suit.

Often any Greyhounds, if they are within ear shot, will jump right in! Even police sirens can get them started!
"I love working with the hounds. My week isn't complete without my greyhound fix! It's all about the greyhounds!"

Our Volunteers Are GREYT!

RDRP volunteers Charlene & Terry Proeger recently stepped up to the plate when a new arrival named Scotty!  He had an injured tail and needed a quite home and some extra loving care to rest & recuperate
.
Charlene sewed a special bumper for his crate, and they quickly made him feel right at ease. Their beautiful greyhound Flyboy has lived up to his new role as foster brother too.

Sweet Scotty has had his vet appointments for his "happy tail" and the tippy was removed, his dental and neuter done and he will soon be ready for his forever home! As you can see he is figuring out "home life" very nicely.

Scotty loves people, kissing and kisses, toys, cats, dogs and walkies!

Charlene asked Flyboy how he felt about this new living arrangement... "Flyboy says it's fine having foster pup Scotty stay at his house. Flyboy enjoys relaxing together, going on long walks, and hiking at Myakka. Flyboy is teaching Scotty his special technique for kissing babies."

Do YOU have space for a short term foster?

Let's all try to help with this! If we find some short term foster homes, we can start to get our male greys neutered. For an uncomplicated neutering, just a few days recovery in a foster home would be sufficient. This would likely expedite adoptions, and also help mellow the pups.
If you might be able to help out with short term foster care, or other types of foster care, contact Geri Harrison. RDRP will help make your foster experience a meaningful one!
To contact Geri, call her cell (685-4509) or email her at idlerichh@aol.com

Liam GotchaHappy Gotcha Day Liam!Liam hound

Liam and I are celebrating our 3-year Gotcha date today, April 12, 2016. Liam is so loving, sweet-natured, and smart--he can even remember where I park my car! He's playful and affectionate, and runs down the stairs to greet me when I come home. Liam offers his toys to his 14-year-old feline brother Bailey, and is always up for a ride in my car. When we pull up to the drive-through at our local Starbuck's the baristas say, "Liam's here!" and they always have a treat for him. Liam loves his memory foam bed, belly rubs, and all his squeaky toys! When people ask if I rescued him, I always say we rescued each other. Liam is a greyt ambassadog for RDRP!"

Happy Yappy Birthday Poppy!

Miss Poppy Lulu's 3rd birthday is April 14th. Poppy has blossomed into an amazing houndie with a lot of spunk and zest for life... think Lucille Ball will long legs!  She loves her greyhound sister Lilly, tolerates her two cats, and likes the bird. Bananas, zoomies and guests are a few of her favorite things.

Q- Hey Uncle Indra, what's the most important things I need to remember when I bring my adopted  houndie home?

As an adopted ex-racer I am qualified to answer that one! When I think back to my first week or so of becoming a "family member" so many things come to mind... slippery floors, loud doors, the see-through things that I could not walk through (windows I later learned) and all the strange sounds and smells. This was the hugest kennel I had every seen! I was pretty unsure of what was up, or down, and I really needed some together time with my new humans and for them to have a light- hearted attitude of gratitude that we were all doing this together!

All I could do was HOPE the nice humans knew what they were doing, that they had studied up on the greyhound ways, and that I would be safe, fed, have water and be treated nicely. I sure knew that I had to try to trust them.

1. Study, Google and learn all about the Greyhound!
2. Please make arrangements to spend time with me while I settle in.
3. Know that I want to love you forever and this is all very knew... I am not like other "dogs".
4. Be very mindful of all that you studied & learned - doors, windows, hound-proofed home, etc., safety first.
5. Always make sure I am wide awake before you touch me, just in case I sleep startle.
6. Call RDRP if you have any questions or concerns.
7. Understand that I will take awhile to blossom into the fully amazing houndie I will become. Every day is a treasure! :-)

Here is a good article for more info on the first many days of settling in!

It is with a heavy heart that I report the loss of one of our beloved adopted greyhounds. After a brave battle with heart disease, LC Lyle, who has adopted by Jayna Sharpley and family, crossed over the bridge today. "Streak" was only 3 years old and had been adopted by Jayna in August of last year. Our heartfelt sympathy to Jayna and her family. He was a brave boy and while his time with Jayna was too short, he had found a wonderful home. We are all sad and you are in our prayers. Please know your friends at RDRP care deeply.

Run free Streak, no leash, no fences and no pain. See you on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
