Greetings RDRP Newsletter

Ok, it's the day after Valentines Day but here at  Racing Dog Retirement Project we are always about the LOVE!  Warm fuzzies and racing hearts happen whenever we even hear the word greyhound let alone be near one! Oh yes... greyhound humans are all about the LOVE of the hound! These bodacious babes are the epitome of grateful goodness and insurmountable joy! The best way to describe the greyhound is Unconditional love - affection without any limitations or love without conditions. There is nothing quite like it and once you experience it there is no turning back. You will forever be part of the greyhound club... or is that cult? Whatever you call it you will  always family and will feel affection for another on a whole new level. So tell your friends & family and let's get every one of these deserving and magnificent bundles of LOVE adopted ASAP!!!. Please consider opening your home and changing a life.

Con-GREYT-ulations!!!

Angel Adopted!

angelWhat a greyt Valentine for these ladies! PJ Angels Share (Angel), a shiny almost 4 year old black girl went to her forever home today with Kim Long and Robin Leist of Sarasota.

Savannah. as she will now be known, joins big brother Zen ...who seems quite smitten with her. All the AC volunteers loved how she would roll over for as many belly rubs as she could get.

Congratulations Kim, Robin, Zen and Angel/Savannah from your RDRP family. Hope to see you all at our meet and greets.

Kats adoptedTux Adopted!!

Gable Fort Smith (Tux), a good looking 6 year old boy whose owner could no longer care for him, has found a new home with Rich Foster and Karan Mannweiler of Sarasota and Georgia.

Thanks to our greyt volunteers Gwen and Phil Jung and Nikki K (who helped by fostering), Tux was able to find Rich and Karan who opened their hearts and home to him. It is always sad when someone has to surrender their beloved Greyhound but we are so happy for Tux and his new family.

Congratulations from your RDRP family.

Gio adoptedGio Has A Furever Home!

More adoption news. Another grey has found his forever home. Kiowa Sangiovese, aka Gio, a very handsome 2 year old fawn boy has moved to Palmetto to live with Chris and Michelle Trout.

The Trout family knew it was love at first sight when they met Gio at a recent open house. We all knew he was the perfect grey for this wonderful family.

Congratulations to Gio and his new family from all your RDRP friends!

Gio adoptedTiger Adopted!!!

It gives me greyt pleasure to post another wonderful adoption. Fly M Tigerwoods aka Tiger, found his forever home today with the most amazing family. Vicki and Jim Savage of Venice and their family knew Tiger was the one at first meeting at a recent open house.

Tiger is a 2 year old red brindle boy with a very gentle manner. He bonded immediately with Gillian and the rest of the family and other family dogs.

Congratulations to the Savages from all of us at RDRP.

Aren't they both just the cutest?

Mary Baker  1949 - 2016

Mary was one of the original members and served on the Board for many years of
RDRP f/k/a Make Peace with Animals. A small dog lover she and her husband Jeff quickly became enamored of these couch potatoes. They adopted many senior and special needs Greyhounds and even moved to a home with acreage so the dogs could run for fun. She, along with the secretarial business she co-owned created much of the original printed material along with the original "snail mail" newsletter.

Mary and Jeff hosted an annual garage sale each year at their home. This was
previously one of the largest fundraisers for the organization. She tirelessly picked up, stored, priced, sold and then delivered unsold merchandise to other not-for- profit organizations afterward.

Mary spent many hours picking up dogs, bathing, picking off ticks and fleas, feeding and scooping poop at the many facilities that housed dogs over the years before the adoption center. She was an integral part of matching dogs with the right family and getting them the medical care they needed before adoption.

Mary cared very deeply about the Greyhounds and the organization and was always quick to laugh and had an easy smile. While she was unable to contribute in a physical way in recent years due to her health, the Greyhounds were never far from her thoughts.

Greyhounds & Volunteers doing Greyt things!

Volunteer Gini Longarzo  recently got volunteer Pam Driggs and her grey-baby Tiger involved with Paws for Friendship. I asked Gini about her experience with Paws for Friendship, this is what she said;
"We are in our third year with PFF. For the first year we did nursing homes and rehab centers, then added the school and that seems to be the best fit for us. Lily is 12 now and we both get a little tired walking the halls of the nursing homes, but it is all rewarding.

The students love Lily and look forward to her visit every week. They just had a joint birthday party for Lily and Gavin. The kids were so excited. They made cards, gave the dogs gifts and just thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

It definitely is a win-win solution for both the students and the dogs (as well as the teachers, the aides and me!!).  The teachers noticed changes in the children after just the first visit.  They are calm, while they are petting Lily and reading without judgment".

Pam Driggs feels that the program will be good for her tiger too.  "We finally had Tiger's first day in the Paws For Friendship program. We went to a local school and the kids took turns reading to him. It was a hit all around!! We can't wait to go back!!"

Paws For Friendship Incorporated is a non-profit Organization of Volunteers sharing the unconditional love of their personal pets with people in need throughout the world.

If RDRP had one wish right now it would be for FOSTER families! Fostering greys allows them a better chance at finding furever homes quicker! The life of a greyhound waiting for his or her forever home is often long, lonely & uncertain. People come and go… and the beautiful grey waits. RDRP is trying to get our kidz nueter/spay procedures done and we can not do that unless we have foster families following the procedure.

RDRP will help make your foster experience a meaningful one! Learn more about FOSTERING here...
