Shades of Praise, A New Orleans Interracial  Gospel Choir performs contemporary gospel music in the African-American style, introduces gospel to wider audiences across racial and denominational boundaries, and forges relationships that dispel stereotypes and create racial harmony.

Celebrate the 1967 landmark civil rights lawsuit “Loving v. Virginia” which ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States at the New Orleans Loving Festival.

Shades of Praise is performing as part of the week-long 2015 New Orleans Loving Festival.

The New Orleans Loving Festival is a Multiracial Community Celebration and Film Festival that fights racism through outreach and education.

Loving Day honors the legacy of Richard & Mildred Loving, the interracial couple whose 1967 landmark civil rights lawsuit “Loving v. Virginia,” ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.

On June 12th, the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling known as “Loving Day,” The Loving Festival will be screening the movie, The Loving Story by Nancy Biursky about Richard and Mildred Loving at 8:30 PM at the Antenna Gallery – 3718 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA 70117

Founded in October 2000 by a jazz musician and a theologian, as a project to bring diverse, interracial and multicultural group of of volunteers together to create a genuinely integrated organization, Shades of Praise has become a shining example of what our community can be. Under the direction of noted New Orleans musician and choirmaster, Al Bemiss, together with a core of top-notch professional instrumentalists, the 50-voice choir has also become known for its joyous, rousing, high-energy sound rooted in the rich tradition of New Orleans' gospel churches.
