As we prepare for our three high school graduations on Sunday, May 27,
2018, I want you to know that we have expanded security measures at the Metra. We have been working with Bill Dutcher, General Manager, and Robert Trimble, Events Coordinator of the Metra, and Mark Wahl, our Emergency Preparedness Executive Director, on enhanced security measures for all graduations.
To this end, I want to provide you with information on the new requirements for Billings Public Schools enhanced security for our graduations. Please read the information below and attachment
within this communication and contact your graduate’s principal should you have questions.
Graduation 2018 – Sunday, May 27th
West High 10:00 a.m. Metra Park Doors Open 9:00 am.
Skyview High 2:00 p.m. Metra Park Doors Open 1:00 p.m.
Senior High 6:00 p.m. Metra Park Doors Open 5:00 p.m.
New Security Measures for Graduation Ceremonies
New security measures will be instituted this year for graduation. Below are the security requirements to enter the Metra for graduation. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause but student safety and your safety are very important to us.
Entry for Graduates
As per the enclosed map, all graduates, band and staff members will enter through the lower level exhibit hall doors.
Entry for Parents and Guests
As per the enclosed map, parents and guests attending graduation will enter through the bag check and wanding points at the East Lobby and the West Lobby.
Guests are prohibited from bringing any weapons on premise/grounds. Weapons include, but are not limited to firearms, explosives, stun guns, handcuffs, brass knuckles, sticks, clubs, batons, pepper spray, tear gas and knives. Guests with concealed weapons permits are still prohibited from bringing weapons on premise/grounds.
large bags, backpacks, or purses will be permitted into the venue. However, the following are permitted:
- Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap
- Clear plastic bags and purses
- Medically necessary items that have been inspected by security
Below is a list of other items that you are prohibited
from bringing into the Metra:

- Any outside food or beverages
- Bullhorns/whistles or noisemakers
- Beach balls and other inflatables
- Pets or animals (with the exception of service animals)
These safety precautions are new requirements for Billings Public Schools to enhance the security of our graduates, their families, and school personnel. Should you have questions or need additional information please contact your graduate’s principal.
