Brokerage Sales Perk Up in Late Summer

After three months of lower sales, the volume of activity picked up in August for U.S. yacht brokerages, increasing by 72 boats, or 2 percent, compared to the same month in 2015. According to reports by YachtWorld member brokers in SoldBoats, the value of the boats sold also increased, by $65 million, with a total of $344 million changing hands.

Marine Corrosion: A Misunderstood and Expensive Issue

Not long ago four, two year old, 118 ft. aluminum fast ferries had to be hauled and removed from service due to corrosion at a cost of over $60,000. 

In yet another example, two new 103.9 ft. Ocean Class Tractor tugs experienced loss of keel coolers due to corrosion costing around $300,000.

Worldwide and across all industries, it is estimated that the cost of dealing with corrosion is around $270,000,000,000 per year. Included in that figure, it is estimated that the worldwide marine industries portion is up to $80,000,000,000 per year. This figure includes preventative and maintenance costs as well as repair costs.
