ISD is THE professional network for world class sealing technology Distributors and Manufacturers, dedicated to significantly improving member performance by sharing best practices, ideas, technologies and knowledge in a social and interactive environment.

Between the weather and the politics, everything is feeling a little crazy these days, but hopefully your business is headed in a positive direction, and your association would like to help!  Your board met in Nashville towards the end of last month, and had an excellent tour of the facilities as well as discussions with the FPDA board regarding program priorities.  We have some excellent speakers lined up, and are finalizing a program that also enables plenty of great networking.  Nashville is a fun town, and we’ll be right in the middle of everything with our hotel’s location.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Here’s what else is happening around the ISD:

2017 Summit

ISD turns 25 this year, and we will be recognizing that at this year’s Summit.  Bring any pictures or memories you’d like to share – we’ll provide a spot in the registration area for photos and memorabilia, for a fun walk down memory lane.  In addition, your board will be doing a lot of work between now and then to define strategic priorities for the next 25 years – come join us at the Annual Meeting of Members on Tuesday of the Summit to get the latest on that, as well as provide your feedback on priorities and directions.  We’re also planning both a great welcome reception (stay tuned for details!) and a gala evening Tuesday night, complete with entertainment.  And make sure you don’t miss our closing session on Wednesday – we’ll be announcing the speaker soon and it should prove to be a don’t-miss event.

2017 Spring Tech Event

A big "Thank You" to Sepco for hosting this year’s event.  Mark your calendars for Monday and Tuesday, April 24-25 just outside Birmingham, AL.  We will once again have a range of topics to choose from, including sessions such as: Innovation in PTFE Gasket Technology, with a focus on Rail Car application; Differences in Flexible Graphite; Industrial Rubber; Plastics; Isolators; tours and much more.  This event is designed to offer great technical training for the budget conscious - $245 for the first attendee, and $195 for additional attendees from the same company (includes meals).  What a deal!

Mechanical Seals O-Rings Soft Gaskets and Teflon Packing

An announcement and registration information will be going out tomorrow, but mark your calendars for March 24th at 1:00 pm. Cliff Goldstein of Eclipse Engineering will be leading a session on on hydraulic seals, specifically working with a basic hydraulic cylinder being used to support a gantry involved in a rocket launch.  This application involves a series of cylinders that are compensating for wind during pre-launch. Cylinders can see pressures as high as 5000 psi and must quickly respond to highly fluctuating conditions.  Enrollments will be limited to 10 to allow more active participation.

Some Insights From John Chapin

What I Learned Working at the Highest-Producing Brokerage Office in the Country

Early on in my sales career I was lucky enough to be in the top-producing office of a financial services firm. In that office we had the top two producers in the country, out of 1800. We also had 3 more in the top 20.  Here are the elements of that office that made it number one for the entire three years I was there.
