Burma Star Memorial Fund – support needed for Remembrance Project

The Burma Star Memorial Fund is embarking on an exciting new Remembrance Project and needs some help. It plans to set up an online ‘Remembrance Book’ which will include as many of the veterans of the ‘Burma Campaign’ as possible. To start the process it wants to have all the application forms of the members, past and present, of The Burma Star Association, approximately 56,000, digitalised to form a database for this project.

So what is needed is someone who is able to input the information on the application forms quickly and accurately on to a computer. There is office space available at the headquarters of the Association in London, where the forms are kept, for this to be undertaken.  The Memorial Fund would consider paying for this service if a suitable volunteer cannot be found. If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact the office of the Fund on 020 7823 4273 or email Thank you.

Scottish Veterans Fund 2018/19

Veterans are set to benefit from initiatives to improve employment opportunities and help transition after serving.

Awards made to veterans and ex-services charities across Scotland from the Scottish Veterans Fund (SVF) now total more than £1.3 million.

Grant funding of £204,000 has been newly allocated to ten projects across Scotland to encourage employment opportunities for veterans, help them develop key skills when transitioning and improve community support. Six projects which continue from last year will also be given £67,000 in 2018/19.

This funding includes £93,000 from Standard Life Aberdeen, over the next two years, who continue to partner with the Scottish Government to enhance the fund.

Garry says: “I was really humbled to be presented with this award, particularly because I know that without the support of Blind Veterans UK I wouldn’t be where I am today. The Lobbying (Scotland) Act 2016 and what it means for your charity

Following considerable scrutiny and debate, the Lobbying (Scotland) Act 2016 became law in April 2016. That debate recognised lobbying as a legitimate and valuable part of our democratic process, whilst agreeing that the creation of a public Lobbying Register was appropriate to enhance public transparency, for certain types of lobbying.
