Dear Friends,

“There is no rationality in the Nazi hatred: it is hate that is not in us, it is outside of man.. We cannot understand it, but we must understand from where it springs, and we must be on our guard. If understanding is impossible, knowing is imperative, because what happened could happen again." ~ Primo Levi

Unsung heroines of the Holocaust

Brave WIZO women continued to function in Europe during and after the Holocaust. In spite of increasingly worsening living conditions, constant awareness of impending danger and personal tragedy these women were instrumental in providing support to others even as their resources dwindled. Members of WIZO France operated an underground network and helped save over 300 children who otherwise would have fallen into the hands of the Nazis. Social media helps return family heirloom to its rightful owner

A thrift store near the Dutch capital appealed to Facebook users to help locate the owners of a notebook that celebrated the union on May 31, 1942, of Flora and Louis Barzelay who perished in Auschwitz. The lessons of Bergen-Belsen were not learned in 1945, and still have not been today, with the proliferation of Nazi-inspired, anti-Jewish Islamist groups. Read more...

Humor as a coping mechanism

Holocaust humor and the role that laughter played in the lives of Jews during World War II are the focus of a new documentary film. In The Last Laugh, first- and second-generation survivors, as well as famous Jewish and non-Jewish comedians, discuss their thoughts on when joking about the death camps is appropriate or taboo. The documentary also highlights how humor helped Jews in the death camps keep their spirits up, despite their inhuman conditions. The upside of the British Labor Party’s anti-Semitism furor

The demonization of Israel and Zionism is something that generally bothers just Israel and its supporters. It is positive to see this finally concerning others as well, especially in Britain, where, among certain circles, this demonization has, for quite some time, been not only fashionable, but also – oddly – a sign of enlightenment.
