When ultra-Orthodox media outlets published the traditional picture of the new Israeli cabinet they blotted out the faces of the three female ministers on the grounds that pictures of women offend religious norms. Through this act of censorship women's faces may have been momentarily obliterated from the public eye but thanks to courageous Haredi-Orthodox female activists like Adina Bar-Shalom, Esty Shushan and Ruth Colian, who are defying the usual expectations of their insular communities, these victims of discrimination have been given a voice.
Since its inception, the women of WIZO have stood for women's rights and helped women in all echelons of society; demonstrating their unswerving faith in the potential of women to shape and influence public life.

The lack of female speakers at major events in Israel is notable, therefore the organizers of a recent TEDx event in Jerusalem decided to dedicate it solely to women. In her talk Esty Shushan, a Haredi- Orthodox woman who launched a campaign called "No Voice, No Vote" to integrate women in the ultra-orthodox parties shares her journey from one woman, alone, in front of a Facebook page, to a new ultra-orthodox feminist movement that has made history.
