Truth and Reconciliation: Calls to Action

On February 17th, 2016, the Province of Ontario announced the implementation of new Indigenous Training and Education requirements related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC): Calls to Action*.

All Ontario Public Service (OPS) employees are now required to participate in mandatory Indigenous cultural competency and anti-racism training. Mandatory learning expectations in Ontario's public education system curriculum will also be implemented.

As Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary, it is crucial to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the Calls to Action as a step towards healing and reconciliation. The Province of Ontario expressed their commitment to work with partners to address Indigenous education and training.

Bear Standing Tall & Associates, 1COMMUNITY1 and The Hive Centre and Bee & Bee have partnered to bring awareness to and deliver Indigenous Training and Education Programs in Ontario that fulfill accreditation standards and requirements in regards to cultural relevance, cultural competence and cultural safety.

For the past 18 years, Bear Standing Tall has facilitated Indigenous Cultural Sensitivity Training workshops across Canada – at Universities, Colleges, Health Facilities, Wellness Centres, Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centres, Healing Lodges, Youth Centres, Men’s and Women’s Support Houses and Federal Institutions for Men.

In Indigenous culture, the drum is a medicine used as the heartbeat of Mother Earth. It is a tool for bringing out someone’s voice or songs and can be used as one beat with all the drums of the world for bringing out creative energy.

Join Bear Standing Tall for a Hand Drum Making Retreat that you do not want to miss. Take home a 14" deerskin drum made by you. Spaces are limited.
