Mr Harrison's blog

This week, as part of ‘Moving Up Afternoon’, we welcomed the new pupils joining the school in September. The school was again a-buzz with excitement and anticipation at all that lies ahead. With the building works due to begin in just two weeks’ time, there is indeed plenty to get excited about.

Along with the new pupils, we welcomed the new teachers: Mrs Moran (y3) and Mrs Colliver (y1) as well as Mrs Summers (Science). They brought their own brand of magic and it was lovely to wander round and see children settling, giggling, talking and listening as the new teams for 2016-17 began to overcome initial nerves and spend time together.

First sports day for Kindergarten

This week the kindergarten children enjoyed their very first sports day.

They children were not put off by the weather and were determined to run, even in the rain.

Every child participated with great effort and enthusiasm; well done!

Watch a video of a day in KS2

Key Stage 2 is an important and exciting time for our pupils, providing plenty of opportunities for the children to grow both intellectually and emotionally, to reach their full potential. Watch our short video insight into life in Years 3 to 6, here at Weston Green.

Year 4's ESB exam

4B have finally completed their English Speaking board exams and performed so magnificently well! The examiner was so impressed with their expression in their reading, passion of their topic speech and engaging rhythm in their poems. They have worked so hard to prepare for this and I am glad that they have enjoyed doing it and gained so much confidence for the future. Well done 4B!

Sports day

It was the moment we had all been waiting for, the sporting event of the year! Forget the Euros and the Olympics, it was all about Weston Green’s Sports Day, and it certainly did not disappoint.

The competition was fierce. Could Arbrook add yet another sporting competition to their bursting trophy cabinet?

French day

A great Gallic day was enjoyed by all at Weston Green as we celebrated French day last week. The school was a sea of red, white and blue with the children and staff looking very chic in their Tricolore-themed clothes and with bunting, flags and posters a plenty. The day started with Key Stage 2 pupils having a quiet browse of their French quiz & puzzle booklets before our French assembly started.

Scones are the easiest English teatime treat.

There’s scope to customise these sweet ones with dried fruit or cinnamon.

Year 2 trip to Painshill Park

Year 2 spent a wonderful day exploring nature within the beautiful surroundings of Painshill Park. In the morning they became plant explorers, experiencing the life journey of  a Painshill plant from tiny seeds being dispersed, to germination and growth. The children also made a micro-garden to bring their learning to life.  In the afternoon they followed Bernard the Blackbird's trail, discovering creatures great and small and even helping him build a new nest!  Food chains, living environments, life cycles, adaptation and camouflage were all explored along the way.
