Mr Harrison's blog

We have raced to half-term in what feels like the blink of an eye and yet the break will, conversely, be much deserved by all due to the effort and energy that is exerted each day in achieving so much. Already memories of the year are being made: trips to Hampton Court, Bignor Roman villa and Garson farm, the visit of the Happy Puzzle Company, matches, the wonderful Poetry competition and nerve-jingling Final, art workshop .. the list could go on and the children will have their own to cherish.

Kindergarten enjoy their Outdoor Explorers afternoon session
Kindergarten have been enjoying their new afternoon programme. As part of our Outdoor Explorers session on Thursdays, we recently planted daffodil bulbs ready for spring and made our own shelter in the Natural Area. Watch a short video of Kindergarten’s Outdoor Explorers session.
Happy Puzzle visit
The Reception classes recently enjoyed a visit from The Happy Puzzle Company. It was an excellent opportunity for children to work in small groups as they welcomed and conquered each new challenge! Pupils thought about how they would approach a task and reviewed their strategies, adapting a new plan when it was necessary. Teamwork does not come without challenges for any age but Reception displayed patience and perseverance and worked together to solve problems.
Work from Year 2

In Art, Year 2 recently enjoyed completing their own self-portraits. They used photos of themselves and studied their features before having a go at drawing a detailed pencil sketch of their face. They then explored different ways to create light, tone and shading with their pencil. The children were very pleased with their final masterpieces and so are we!

Kicking off with a win!
Half term provides a fantastic opportunity to look back over the term's results on the football pitch. We have had several matches across the year groups and some impressive results to say the least. Both of Weston Green’s A teams (Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6) have been unbeaten so far, with the top half of the school showing an impressive eye for the goal. In total both A teams have scored 22 goals from just 4 games!

Leaders of tomorrow?

This term has not only seen investment in some amazing  new equipment for KS2 to use (ipads, keyboards, new sports equipment to name but a few!); but here at Weston Green we have also been ‘investing’ in the children as the future leaders of tomorrow.

House, Sport and Choir Captains have now been selected, and they sit alongside the School Council and Food Committee as some of the positions of responsibility that children can be considered for when they move up to KS2.

Children across the school have been busy learning about harvest and preparing songs and readings to present to their parents.

Reception have been pumpkin picking at Garson Farm and Kindergarten have been learning about the work of the farmer at this important time of year. Their gifts of fruit and vegetables will be sent to the kitchens at the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher. KS1 are collecting items for patients who attend the day hospice at Princess Alice.
